New - with some stupid questions

Hello there. My name is Laura and I am new to posting here. I am some very stupid questions to ask.

What does ev trained mean?
What does IV mean?

If there's another thread addressing these silly questions, sorry for posting without looking hard enough.

I'm looking to complete my pokedex, hopefully getting some much needed pokemon through this site. :) So far, I've seen and obtained 434.
