Question Newbie buying Poke cards

Hello,

I'm new to this site and Pokémon cards. I've purchased a 1000 card lot in the past for my kids, but now I'm kinda getting into Pokémon also. Wondering what is the best way you to build sets? Buying booster boxes? And if so which ones? As some are pretty pricey.

I also purchased some 50 card Pokémon lot cards in the $10-$14 range. 15 sets to be exact at $148 total with shipping. Is this a good deal or did I pretty much make a rookie mistake?

Enclosed attachment that states what come in each set

Cards from 95-2001, 25 common, 15 uncommon, 4 rare, 4 reverse holo( common, uncommon,rare, 2 holo/Holo foil (common or rare)
