Non-meta pokemons you are willing to power up

    The current meta provides us a very limited list of strong pokemons. As such, usual gym defenders you see would be Dragonite, Snorlax, Arcanine, Vaporeon, Gyarados among others. Surprisingly, Exeggutor and Slowbro are part of the current meta.

    With this, what are the pokemons that are not part of the current meta of the game that you are willing to power up?

    Mine are as follows:

    1. 100% IV Rapidash with Ember and Fire Blast as skill set
    - I will power this up all the way
    2. 93% IV Gengar - for differentiation. Seriously this is one of the cooler pokemons from the original game.
    3. Future Alakazam - same reason as #2
    4. Better IV Jolteon with Thunder as charge skill - its stat is way behind its brother Vaporeon
     
    I'm pretty much powering up all my >90% IV pokemon. First of all I like having the variety of pokemon with which to take on gyms, train, and leave at gyms. It just makes it more fun that way for me. Vaporeon to me is by far the best, but I don't like using it every time. Unfortunately those are a 97% Clefable (zen headbutt and psychic) and a 98% Magneton. I've gotten Clefable up to CP 1947 and Magneton up to 1259. I don't care much about the meta personally, although I do have 4 vaporeons at ~2000 CP, one of which is 95% IV and is currently at 2282 CP. Once I refill on Stardust, I'm going to try to power up my 93% Victreebell.

    My ultimate goal to keep things exciting until Gen. 2 is released it to try to have as many >90% pokemon fully powered up.
     
    Parasect with Solar Beam. Great for taking out Vaporeons, but with 1131 CP I can't take out the highest level Vaporeons with > 2000 CP.

    Seems it should be easy to take out a Vaporeon with a lower CP Jolteon, but not in my experience.
     
    Meta has a lot of choices, contrary to popular belief.

    Exeggutor shouldn't be surprising. It's been a staple on high-level teams since the early days of the game due to its exceptional type coverage, great base stats, and the fact that it's relatively easy to obtain at 50 candies per evolution. On top of that, Exeggcute has a ~2.75x evolution multiplier (CP800 Exeggute = CP2000 Exeggutor).

    Then there are secondary tiers where you find the starters, with Charizard getting the biggest shaft both defensively and offensively due to better options (outshine by both Arcanine and Flareon), though Charizard has its dual-type coverage going for it.

    In the past I've powered up a 95.6% IV Nidoking with Poison Jab/Earthquake. It's sitting around CP2123 right now. I would very much like to take the time to power up my offensive Venusaur, which is perfect 100% IVs with Vine Whip/Petal Blizzard. Currently it's sitting at CP1474 (level 20) so it has a long, long way to go.
     
    what is a wigglytuff considered as?
    i have a 93% iv wigglytuff with hyper beam. i stopped powering it up at 1500 cp because it still destroys 2500+ cp snorlax and 3000 cp dragonites. more points for winning with lower cp pokemons, right?
