Are normal type pokemon ever useful in building a team

and when i say normal I mean as in Lickitung, Snorelax, Clafable, Wigglytuff, etc.

Snorelax is a great normal pokemon..there arent many pokemon that are great that are normal..

There Eevee who is normal and evolves into water/fire/thunder/dark/psychic and soon to come ice and grass

But all of them suck unless your playing just normal red and blue (Hope to god your not; and the only reason he's good is because he can learn a bug move that can demolish psychic pokemon but now we have dark pokemon)

But snorelax by far, im using him as one of my pokemon SP Def. Chansey is okay if you know what you are doing..

Besides that off of the top of my head there arent really any other good ones. Some people use chancey as a top 6 (When i say top 6 i meen a pokemon they use in battle...)but they have a strategy on her...

Might want to ask someone who uses a chancey as i wont ever, I use snorelax..

Well, since you're new i guess you wouldn't know that snorlax and blissey are two of the most overused pokemon. Both are extremely useful and are two of the best pokemon around. They are great special tanks because of their seemly infinite hp and high sp.def stat. Snorlax also packs a lot of attack power and can take down entire teams if you don't have the right counter, and blissey is a freaking wall. Miltank serves the same purpose to some extent. CB Tauros is a popular pogey and puts a dent in any pokemon, even those who are resistant. Then there's the flailing dodrio's, the CB swellows who are not OU but are useful pokemon. I'm sure i'm forgetting a lot of pokes but normal type is definitely one of the most common types around, even if you only count blissey and snorlax who's on just about every single team out there.

And the eevee evolutions are good, well, except for Flareon anyhow. Jolteon is one of the best pogeys around with his insane speed and sp.att and can serve as a sweeper or baton passer passing on sub and agility. Vaporeon with acid armor and his hp and defensive stat is also a defensive tank. Espeon is a decent sweeper with calm mind and umbreon is one of the most annoying setup pokes. With moves like wish it really takes a lot of effort to take down Vaporeon, and Umbreon.

Normal Pokemon are good because they have very few weaknesses, and a very wide attack type range. Like most Normals can learn just about any type of attack. (Like water, fire, etc.)

thanks everyone for the reply, i think im gonna go sit in the safari for a while and try to get a chansey, is there a certian spot that it spawns or is it just anywhere?

Slaking, Snorlax and Blissey are on nearly every successful team. x_x

yeah slaking... also, i'm a big fan of miltank. i used to have a miltank with a King's Rock moveset, so it'd cause a lot of flinching, and another one that was a defensive tank. i just love miltank because it's so adjustable to different kinds of usages.

tauros is pretty good as well. has a high attack and speed. clefable is pretty awesome as well. you can go many different ways with clefable.

kangaskhan is good too. can really only be used for physical attacking, tho.

i know this one is going to sound crazy, but dunsparce with serene grace is greatness. put a king's rock on it with rock slide and headbutt (bite does will with this as well), and you have endless flinching. problem is it doesn't have much speed, and other than its HP, its other stats are not that great as well. body slam on dunsparce is not as effective, but can be harmful. it can also learn astonish for flinch, but it's weak.

granbull has a lot of attack. nothing else so special about it tho.

ursaring is sorta tankish, but also has decent hp and a high attack. with its ability, Guts, Ursaring will become a lot stronger in D/P. with a Flame Orb attached, its base attack stat goes from 130 to 195 during battle. it will have burn on it, but that not only makes it stronger, but it prevents it from any other change of stats, and with a base HP of 90 attached with HP EVs, ursaring is set to cause some damage for a good bit of time.

PorygonZ... goes without saying how good this thing is.

stantler, like miltank, is a very adjustable poke, and is fun to construct. doesn't have much potential in competitive battling, but it's decent nonetheless.

zangoose... really not that bad, but definitely not that good.

    hope that helps.

slaking's the best, the most powerful normal pkmn too bad it has a truant ability, next is well snorlax especially when he uses facade, shadowball or stuff like that

Snorlax, Tauros, Blissey, Slaking, Dodrio, Clefable, Fearow, and sometimes Girafarig, depending on what you do with it.

The best (Normal) types in the 3rd Gen. Snorlax + Blissey where great Special Walls because there was no SE special attack against them.

In the 3rd Gen. they used to only worry about Sub Punchers <*Substitute + *Focus Punch> but with the 4th Gen. - and the arrival of *InFight / *Pulse Bomb / *Focus Bomb (Normal) types out there took a big hit.

But they are still very useful.

PorygonZ jumped nearly to the front of the class. Awesome special sweeper. Can <Bolt/Beam> which gives him a great range. Can *Scheme / *Recover for verstility. He's so good he made *Hyper Beam an option. *Hyper Beam people.

If you want to see Slaking really wreck shop. Use him in <2v2> battles with a Gengar packing *Skill Swap. He ends up floating and Gengar can pass off 'Truant' to the enemy if he survives long enough.

Tauros / Miltank / Kangaskhan are all quite nasty. I dread seeing them in battle because they are very tankish by nature. Tauros also has the speed to be an outright physical sweeper. Beware of *Curse here.

Cleffable / Wigglytuff are weird little utility pokes but shouldn't be underestimated. i mean Cleffable might *Belly Drum or he could <Bolt/Beam>. Pretty weird but could throw you for a loop.

Zangoose is my pokemon catcher. I have one packing <*Sword Dance / *False Swipe / *Thunder Wave / *Rest> and he lets me catch almost everything i need flawlessly. I haven't even checked out what the 4th Gen has brought for this little guy but i will now.

Ursaring is poke that when i saw his 4th Gen my eyes popped. His movepool exploded. Not only does he have access to Flame / Toxic Orb which will activate his 'Guts' but he gained *InFight / *Crunch / *Stone Edge. If he would have got *Rock Cart i'd be using him right now. It is needless to say but *Facade + 'Guts' + STAB = PAIN.

And if we get into (Flying) / (Normal) there are plenty of good options. Have you seen what happened to Togekiss. Wa-Wa-We-Wa

I'm still mad they didn't give Dunsparce an evolution. He's so close to being great. But hey at least we got Mojanbo. <What i'm not bitter>

    Well he's equal to Regigigas.

Smeargle is a fantastic Normal-type. Abuse its Sketch and let it learn whatever you want. Smeargle is amazing as a Baton Passer. Swellow's quite good, too if you know how to predict switches and use Facade properly. Raticate's decent when you use Super Fang.

Slaking is good when it has Choice Band, that why it can do 2-turns-worth of damage in one turn to make up for the Truant ability. But yeah, Slaking's good.

So is Snorlax, Blissey (to a certain extent =/), and other CBers like Tauros and so on.
