You know...I saw the first Pokemon episode recently and as any of you know who has seen the episode, he was very, very excited to become the World's Greatest Pokemon Master....he said that he would capture each and every pokemon...he began as anyone who would want to capture all 150..err...251..I mean 386, by trying to capture a Pidgey. Though unsuccesful, then a Caterpie, succesful, Pidgeotto succesful, and then Weedle-unsuccesful.
After the first episodes, Ash never really kept that urge to "Catch 'em All"...
how many Pokemon does Ash have on his Pokedex? I know less than 50. And he's been a trainer for 3 years.
Why do you think Ash lost the 'fire' for becoming a Pokemon Master?

Ack! That's true; I'd noticed that around the first dozen episodes were different than what came after; after the episode where Brock joins Ash, most episodes started to turn into a 'learn more about Pokemon' session. (Why can't we have more gym leaders with Surge personalities?) I'm not sure why he lost it (and I doubt there's been comment on it, but maybe someone will have something.... probably not :( ); it's a shame, but probably some writers were told they needed to change the direction of the story (or the writers did it without prompting), for reasons that are usually unknown to people outside the Boards of Directors of entertainment-based corporations. =P

Becoming a 'Pokemon Master' means winning the Leagues. He just needs to catch enough Pokemon to have a more diverse team. In the last two Leagues (not counting the Orange League miniseries), he used all power for the most part.

If I were him, based on what I've seen so far, I'd use Pikachu, Snorlax, Charizard, and then use some agility-oriented Pokemon.

Once he gets enough Pokemon and finds Ho-Oh, I think that's when he'll start winning Leagues.

Put it THIS way. NOBODY wins the first tournaments in a major fighting show, not even Goku (and you can see for yourself). Yu Yu was an exception and I don't count ones with giant robots in them.

True, true. But wouldn't it get a bit boring if he captured loads of Pokemon he didn't use?

Isn't it obvious? The first episodes were setting up the series, introducing us to Ash, etc.

The anime has it diffrent from the games, pokemon master in the anime more or less just means being the number one trainer in the world. You know being the strongest, that is why he travels to all those diffrent countries.

yeah, but he did say "I'm goin to catch all of the Pokemon" on the first episode...maybe there are two types of Pokemon Masters? A Colleting Master, and a League Master?

Ash wanted to 'catch them all' but once he saw the advertisement for the League, the whole scope of the series changed. And that was AFTER he had Caterpie.

So, 'Master' now refers to winning the Leagues, which he hasn't done yet...

He's more intrested in winning his battles then collecting Pok?mon, ever since he saw the ad... And he STILL hasn't fulfilled that. XD :P
