Since such a minute fraction of the entries to these contests can't really be classified as sprites, I decided to use a much broader term to avoid conflict over what can and can't be accepted.

So we're clear, Pixel art refers to any computer-generated art that is created on the pixel level (This includes sprites, for the few of you that actually do them, so don't panic). You don't actually have to draw each and every individual pixel by hand, you can use tools like the filled ellipse, square, or fill tools, but you MAY NOT use more advanced tools such as gradients or special filters.

Something that I've seen in the past that won't be tolerated is when people generate the mindset that drawing while zoomed in automatically equals pixel art. Pixel art is more than just drawing in a confined space. I've seen great pixel art exceed 640x480. Size is completely irrelevant. If you can create it and edit on the pixel level, it can be considered pixel art. Here are some examples:

Look at this picture. It's immensely detailed, and doesn't even look like pixel art at first glance, but upon close inspection, you can see that it is. Notice how this person clearly did each pixel by hand. No, of course you don't have to do nearly this well, but I'm using it to illustrate that pixel art doesn't mean that you need to merely draw small.

Now look at this picture I made. Try to imagine I put a little more effort into it. It still wouldn't be a valid entry. Notice how I failed to clean up my lines and make it looks as though I paid any attention to individual pixels.

Keep that in mind when working on your pixel works.

I am permitting the use of trainer sprites and other existing sprites, but as a BASIS. Don't just arrange them in a pretty way. Actually do some editing of sprites in your work. In a perfect world, I probably wouldn't allow the use of existing sprites AT ALL, and would expect people to be original, but so many people use them, and it probably wouldn't be fair to deprive people of that, and I will not be biased towards them. You'll still have to actually put some effort into them, though.

Also, remember to use good judgement and common sense for your entries. I shouldn't have to mention this, but I'm going to anyway.

With that said, I give you this month's theme.

    The Four Seasons

Originally, I was going to just do autumn, but I'm pretty sure it's not autumn everywhere in the world, so I decided to just do all the seasons. Your pixel art can pertain to summer, winter, autumn, or spring. Whichever one you want. You can even do multiple seasons, I don't care, just make sure you adhere to the theme.

I think everything's in order. The contest will cease on November 30. I'm aware we started a couple days late, but the contest will probably have slowed down by then anyway.

    Have fun!

    God, I hope I didn't forget anything.

Important Rule [NEW!]: Don't whip up an entry of utter garbage and play the 'I did it in 5 minutes so it's not supposed to be good' card. Nuh-uh. I'm not gonna tolerate that. Post something WORTHWHILE. The time it takes you to do something is not going to be a factor of how well your entry is received. So do it right.
Important Rule [NEW!]: ADHERE TO THE THEME. ADHERE! ADHERE!
