Now, I don’t think gen3 is exactly bad...

I recognize my love for this generation is 100% based on nostalgia, but that's enough for me to still like the game and I'll play through Emerald and FRLG every so often. Again also probably based on nostalgia and loving pirates as a kid, but I've always really enjoyed Team Aqua in particular and think they're a really awesome team, and the aspects of human progress vs. nature preservation was also interesting. Even though the way the story was handled was kind of silly, as kid I enjoyed it and I can still look back at it fondly as an adult. The themes of duality in general are also fairly interesting and made Emerald exciting for me.

The art is another aspect I like, and with the secret bases it made it feel easy to just exist and chill in the world. The exploration too, diving and finding new locations was and still kind of is fun to me. The parts of the game I absolutely hated are also still a point of nostalgia and fondness, like the rapid water route and sky tower.

FRLG I haven't played in awhile, but I remember the games still being really enjoyable and I'll choose them over RBY and Let's Go any day. Gen 3 also gave us Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Ranger, and Pokemon Coliseum. I also enjoy the Pinball game but I don't know if I'm alone in that or not haha

When people ask me which game they should I play probably wouldn't recommend them gen 3 Platinum, HGSS, or any of the gen 5 main series games, but hey they make me happy and sometimes that's enough.
