Nuzlocke (and other special run) headdesking within

I love the games mainly for their replay value--I'm not much of an endgame person or competitive battler. So type runs, trio runs, nuzlocke runs, when I found out about them I was THRILLED. (I finally understand the appeal of "hardcore" modes in some games.)

Too bad I'm not that good at it. D'oh.

Now I'm on my fourth retry of Soul Silver nuzlocke, LOL. The first two times I got destroyed at Ecruteak. The third time I got pwned at Cianwood because I lost my Pidgeotto against a swimmer's Staryu (note: playing while exhausted is not the best idea). Now I'm parked there again, quaking in fear, because one of the gym trainers KO'd my current Pidgeotto. RIP Xena, ::sniff:: She was adamant and everything. She's the only one I have, because I am playing with the variation that I catch the first pokemon I don't already have per area.

The prospect of grinding up another pokemon to face the gym is a bit off-putting at this point, and restarting again... blah.

I'm thinking about escaping back to my copy of Sapphire, where I have a trio-run planned (three specific pokemon of choice, plus HM slaves), and where it's not game over if I full-party KO. Or maybe a FRLG nuzlocke...

Does anyone else have any special-run ARGH moments? Please share, so I can feel better, LOL.
