I thought it was time for a new series of sprite contests, and I've worked out a system that I think is fair. Read through this, and if there's anything you don't understand feel free to PM me, or post in the relevant discussion thread for each month. The theme will be updated IN THIS THREAD every month, as well as in the two other relevant threads (contest discussion and contest entry).
December 2004 Theme: CHRISTMAS DOWN UNDER
December 2004 Judges: TBA
Guidelines for competition entry run as follows.
Contests will be run monthly. They will open for submissions on the 1st of each month and close on the 25th of each month. The judge(s) will then announce the winners. You should post your sprite in the contest entry thread, and specify whether it is in Section A or Section B (see below). Discussion should go in the contest discussion thread.
Each month will have a theme for you to base your sprite on. Some months will have an "open theme", which means you can do anything you like (as long as it's within the rules of the forum and community). You can interpret the theme any way you like.
There are two different, separately judged categories:
Section A
Sprites that are based on other sprites - ie. using official sprites to make recolours, combining sprites etc.
Section B
Original sprites - sprites that are made from scratch.
You may enter both categories, but you may only enter one sprite in each category per month. There will be three place-getters in each category.
To spread the prizes around, so that one person doesn't win every single time, the first-place winner in a category will not be allowed to enter that category the next month (they can still enter the other category). However, we'd ask that the winner judge the category in the month they can't enter. The next month, of course, they may enter again. If the winner of the previous month doesn't want to judge, then they may give the "judging rights" to anyone who wants it. They may also appoint up to two assistant judges to help them. Remember, no judge can enter the category they are judging.
Remember to have fun spriting!
