"Where it all began, it will begin again..."

Welcome to my first RP on these forums! I will be your humble game master and fellow roleplayer in this massive Pokemon adventure roleplaying game!

If you are ready for a Pokemon adventure RP like never before, where you can play as if you're in the anime, this is your chance!

    The Legend...
Centuries ago, the organization known as Cypher expanded its influence beyond Orre and grew power in several regions. Collaborating with various teams, they would join together and create the ultimate syndicate organization, Team Insidious. Their shadow Pokemon project expanded despite their upsets in Orre, and power hungry trainers would be recruited into this dark organization. United, Team Insidious sought out the power of the legendary Pokemon... and they succeeded. Seizing control of several legendaries and converting them into shadow Pokemon, they were completely obedient of their masters. Those that eluded Team Insidious sided with trainers of good heart, trainers of the Elite Four organizations, and ultimately, the widely accepted Pokemon Master at the time: Ash Ketchum. With the remaining legendaries at their side, the world was plunged into a cataclysmic war.

However, Ash, his Pokemon, and those fighting to protect the world would succeed, but with a dear price. Millions of people and Pokemon died. Several Pokemon are believed to have gone extinct, and a few legendaries have fallen, never to rise again. The world was thrown off balance, and several regions were reshaped and sundered heavily. People fled to whatever land remained above water or eluded major natural disasters. It would seem that finally, the evil ambitions of man abusing Pokemon would be over. The world would recover slowly, but it would seem people and Pokemon would be licking their wounds forever. It would not be long, however, until another great war would break out.

Within Kanto, survivors of Team Insidious reformed Team Rocket and seized the makeshift government of Fuschjal, a large southern island in Kanto, home to Fuchsia City on its west coast. Still recovering from the traumatic preceding war, the landmasses that made up Kanto would be ill prepared for such a threat against them. Intent on succeeding where Team Insidious failed, they began their Pokemon war by invading the region to the north, Avendorias, a continent home to the mountainous wilderness north of Lavender Town, and succeeded easily. With the rich resources and Pokemon of Avendorias, Team Rocket would accelerate its war machine and soon push west to Lunalnan, home of Mount Moon and the Cerulean Archipelago.

Home of the Indigo League, the people of Indigalos in westernmost Kanto prepared to counteract this act of war using its own resources and the Pokemon trainers there determined to stop Team Rocket. Though they sent arms and some ground troops to Lunalnan, the mountain island quickly fell to Fuschjal's blitzkrieg. Strong allies of Indigalos, Varidia and Singabbar cooperated with Indigalos and began to counteract Fuschjal's war effort. However, Varidia was taken by surprise when Fuschjal invaded Veridian City as opposed to Varidia's north shore, and Indigalos suffered major losses in the heart of Varidia. Singabbar's Seafoam Islands were also subject to serious acts of war, as bombing and naval battles were common.

Despite their initial setbacks, the Western Forces (Indigalos, Singabbar, Varidia) pushed forward and managed to remove the Eastern Powers (Fuschjal, Avendorias, Lunalnan) from Varidia. The naval campaign in Singabbar was also successful, until they reached Fuschjal's mainland, where the swampy shoreline would limit the Western Forces' ability to achieve victory. They then focused on the northern campaign, liberating the rocky island of Lunalnan through gruesome and bloody battle. Through many difficult battles, the stalemate between the Eastern Powers and the Western Forces was finally broken. The pace of advancement greatly improved as the Western Forces clenched Avendorias. Then the final invasion would begin from Varidia: The Invasion of Fuschia City.

The invasion succeeded, and all of Kanto, including Fuschjal was liberated. Lunalnan's government was restored while Avendorias cooperated with Indigalos to help reestablish their government. As for Fuschjal, they remained occupied by Indigalos for several decades until Indigalos officials felt it was appropriate to withdraw from Fuschjal and allow them to start anew. A few decades later, Pokemon training was officially reintroduced as a sport in Kanto with the reincarnation of the Indigo League, now named the Kanto League to honor all 6 nations of the Kanto region for their compliance. As a result, Kanto League officials hail from all 6 nations of Kanto to ensure all nations have influence in the decisions of the Kanto League.

    A League...
The Kanto League has changed a lot since it has been reborn. Calling out to all determined Pokemon trainers, it has opened its doors to anyone 16 years of age or older and who're willing to take on any challenge that faces them. The legendaries seem to have disappeared. No sightings of these magnificent beasts of legend have been reported since the cataclysmic war initiated by Team Insidious. Still, Pokemon training is alive and well, with 6 challenging gyms badges to acquire, 5 contest ribbons to win, among other various Pokemon related competitions. All trainers must have legally authorized Pokemon, either from a past Kanto league season or from a different region in order to use them in battle, and new trainers in particular may only register one Pokemon to begin with. Any other Pokemon owned previously are ineligible for registration, so no former house pet Pokemon or anything like it are allowed. The age of Pokemon is back again, and a new age of adventure begins, back where it all began, the home of champions, the Kanto region.

As the Kanto League Championships are only a few weeks away, it is that time again for aspiring new trainers to sign up for next years Kanto League Competition and for the legal acquisition of Kanto gym badges. Registering for the Grand Festival is also done, here, in the tropical vacation city and scientific leading edge of the world, Cinnabar City. The leading edge on Pokemon research and science, Professor Sarah Oak, descended from a long line of Pokemon researchers including the famous Samuel Oak and his grandson, Gary Oak, distributes young trainer's starting Pokemon so that they may begin their journey. The future looks bright for future trainers, eager to prove their worth in whatever specialty they choose. Still, there is uncertainty in the air. There are rumors going around, winds of a storm many have long thought have been calmed. Still, the spirits of trainers are stronger than ever. Now is the time for champions. Now is the time for heroes.

Kanto, a vast land has been heavily reshaped throughout the years and political boundaries have shifted:
    Spoiler:

    This Journey...
Each trainer is supplied with a PokeTech, an advanced device containing all of the necessary tools a trainer could want including a complete Pokemon encyclopedia, the Pokedex, 5 pokeballs, their starter Pokemon, and various other travel goods enabling them to get a start on their Pokemon journey. What is new in the selection of young trainers' starting Pokemon in modern day is that among the three traditionally Kanto League sponsored starters, Bulbasaur, Charemander, and Squirtle, is the addition of a fourth, Eevee! Most frugal trainers end up starting out with one of these 4 Pokemon, specifically bred by league sponsored breeders across Kanto. However, more Pokemon can be available as starters, but they, unlike the 4 standard starters, are not payed for by the Kanto League and thus must be bought by the trainers or their parents themselves.

However, occasionally the Kanto League will order a few rare Pokemon that new trainers have a chance of winning if they choose to participate in the event. Otherwise, if the trainer doesn't want the 4 standard starters, can't win a rare starter or afford a rare starter, they may still be able to obtain league authorized starters from people who are authorized to distribute starters such as a league sponsored breeder or maybe a gym leader. Maybe you'll have some close connections to these people and get lucky!

Every badge and contest ribbon is valid only for the year they are issued to your Pokemon Trainer ID and they can no longer register badges or ribbons for that season one month before their respective championships begin, so make haste in acquiring your badges and ribbons, young trainers!

Kanto's gyms have changed a lot with the revival of the Kanto League. Not only must you battle the gym leader to acquire a badge, but you must also prove your skill as a Pokemon trainer by completing various League authorized challenges chosen by the gym leader before the gym leader will meet you in battle. Indeed, the stakes are higher and the prerequisites to be authorized for gym leadership are much higher. They aren't just trainers who specialize with a given type, they are true masters of their trade and it isn't uncommon for them to shatter the hopes and dreams of thousands of young, aspiring Pokemon trainers. Challenge a gym at your own risk, young trainers!

Contest halls, however, haven't changed much. Every month, a town that has a contest hall will host a contest, however you must have every ribbon be from a different contest hall as each contest can have slightly different rule-sets and ways to test your skills as a coordinator, so no camping out a single contest hall for several months to acquire your 5 ribbons needed for the Grand Festival!

    Our Pokemon...
Pokemon have certainly changed over the years, and some serious new discoveries have been made! Some Pokemon now exhibit different or new types entirely, have access to two primary abilities at the same time instead of just one. Certain Pokemon types have new strengths and weaknesses, so your thunderbolt wont be as strong on Aerodactyl as it once was, and your dragon moves are no longer an ace in the hole to defeat a Kingdra! Psychics are now strong and super-effective to ghost types, rock-types are strong to electric-types, dragon-types and ghost-types are no longer weak to their own type, ground and rock-types are now strong to themselves, ghost-types are super effective against normal and fighting-types, and water is strong to ground types.

There has also been the discovery of a new type, the light-type! Known for their good, jolly natures, amazing restorative powers. friendly disposition and sensitivity to human and Pokemon emotions as well as their environment, they prove to be the most difficult type to train by far, even more difficult than the mythical dragon type! Only the trainers of the purest and most loving heart can master the power of the illustrious light-type. They are strong to fire, electric, psychic, light, ghost, and poison types, and are immune to dark types while the light-type is weak to only the steel type. Light-type moves are super effective against ghost, dark, poison, and dragon types while they do little damage to rock, ground, light, grass, and steel types.

    Of Training...
I have designed a specific system to determine our Pokemon's strength and how their abilities will fare in battle against each other and NPCs. The explanation is quite lengthy so it will be revealed in the OOC thread when I throw it up. In the mean time, here is what to expect throughout the game in regards to Pokemon, their moves, and winning.

Various factors will affect which Pokemon will win. Level doesn't always decide who wins. There are several factors that play in to this, but the most important is to be creative and be a great roleplayer. You can't always win, you will always lose some, and some people may win more than you or I, and that's ok. There are many factors that determine a battle's outcome, so be ready and expect it.

If there's a Pokemon you want to catch or a move you want a Pokemon to learn, what you'll do is submit a small form that I'll have in the OOC thread and make your request. What will happen is that I will either deny your request for various reasons such as if that Pokemon doesn't live in the areas we'll be traveling, or if the move cannot be learned by that Pokemon or if it's too high level of a move, or I will list it as pending. This does not mean your request has been granted. The Pokemon will learn the move in the field if I feel it is appropriate, or you'll randomly encounter the Pokemon somehow through events I organize. At that point it's up to you if you want to learn the move or catch the Pokemon.

You can also try to catch a Pokemon even if you didn't request it if we come across it in the RP, so play it by ear. I may also ask you if you want to learn a move to a Pokemon randomly throughout the RP. This can even include moves I created myself, so be ready for those surprises!

    An Adventure...
Kanto awaits you, aspiring young trainers! Make the future of Pokemon bright and keep the competitive spirit of human and Pokemon high! Our adventures will begin with the trainers congregating in the large lobby of the Institution of Advanced Pokemon Sciences, or IAPS for short, an extremelly prestigious college for only the most dedicated of Pokemon scientists to uncover the secrets of the Pokemon universe. This amazing university is situated in the foothills just outside of Cinnabar City's downtown area, sitting under the dark, looming Cinnabar Volcano. IAPS sponsors the official distribution of starter Pokemon where aspiring trainers get to meet the revered Professor Sarah Oak, a legend in the many fields of modern Pokemon science. Despite her popularity, she is humble and truly loves what she does.

Whether you're from Cinnabar Island, arrived there on a boat from the Seafoam Islands, were shipped or flown in from another Kanto nation or even outside of Kanto itself, all new trainers in Kanto come to Cinnabar City's prestigious IAPS to obtain their first Pokemon and set out on a journey. Most new trainers set out towards Varidia, the country of endless forests and nature, where the massive Veridian National Forest attracts Pokemon and nature lovers from around the world to bask in its beauty or to participate in their catching competitions. They're also known for their agriculture and dairy products, their fishing up north, and the booming metropolis, Veridian City, home to a prestigious contest hall and gym, who's gym leader is a national and regional celebrity, and a very tough opponent, being the daughter of a member of the Elite Four.

Our characters will be traveling as if they were members of the anime, coming across new people and Pokemon and dealing with various conflicts along the way. Plots will be developed by me but I always love feedback for additional events that may happen upon the gang! So, are you ready to traverse the preserved wilderness of Varidia and embark on a truly epic adventure in the world of Pokemon? We will see...

    About Guidelines...

ONE: I am the game master. My ruling is final. I control several aspects of the RP and I determine the outcome of the events. I will be as fair as I can and ensure the enjoyment of all participants.

TWO: Follow basic roleplaying and PC rules. Godmodding, bunnying, metagaming, etc. isn't allowed. I will determine the outcome of events and they will be fair. Period. Not everyone can win, and everyone will lose some.

THREE: Be creative and think outside of the box. I will favor players who develop unique and interesting characters and who show off their character in a consistent manner when it comes to training their Pokemon. Just be aware that some characters will be better at Pokemon training than others, so create the right character!

FOUR: Develop a strong character and make them unique and interesting, as well as the Pokemon you obtain. You get to control your character (obviously) and their Pokemon. What happens to your character in the RP is based on how well you roleplay your character and their Pokemon and how believable you make it appear. Mary/Gary Sues will not last a minute here.

FIVE: Movesets, the Pokemon we encounter, what attacks hit, what happens to who, who gets what, is ALL determined by me, as I am the game master. Things can't always go your way. You're cooperating with several roleplayers, so respect them. You win some, you lose some. If you want your Pokemon to learn a move or you want to obtain a certain Pokemon, send me a request via PM. The form will be posted in the OOC thread.

SIX: I am seeking EXCEPTIONAL roleplayers who will commit to an RP and be fairly active in it. If the first one goes well, I will continue the RP into Lunalnan and on from there, but that requires people to be here to respond, and I want them to be good. New roleplayers feel free to apply, but I will be fairly strict with sign-ups and I will select the best there is with those who have the most interesting sign-up. One post a day is the minimum unless you give me a good excuse in advance.

    Your Application...
So you want to give it a shot, eh? Well, here it is! Keep your application clean, easily readable, use the English language well, and create a great character!

NOTE: Keep your character unique from the pack. Ideally, I'd like each character to have different ultimate objectives but have enough of a reason to travel together. You don't have to compete in the Kanto League or Kanto Contests, and I prefer it if not everyone does.

Name: (First and last. Nicknames and middle names optional.)
Age: (16 is the youngest allowed age to train Pokemon in any region, whether you do contests or gyms or not. Not accepting any characters over 24.)
    Gender: (derp)
Title: (What aspect of Pokemon do you specialize in? Are you type specific, species specific, a standard trainer, coordinator, breeder, watcher, aspiring scientist, novice doctor, what? Be creative and be practical! Think about)
Experience: (Some characters might be new to Pokemon trainers while others may not. Please state your experience but make it appropriate for your character's age.)
Nationality: (Singabbarian, Varidian, Lunalnian, Avendorian, Fuschjian, or Indigalian. Try to pick one nobody else has chosen. Kanto outsiders are permitted but I prefer people from Kanto and thus you better produce an amazing app. if you want to be from outside Kanto. I'm only allowing one app. per outsider per region, so if 2 people want to be outsiders from Johto, only one can be from Johto.)
Hometown: (Refer to the map and pick any town in that region. Seafoam islands are part of Singabbar while the Cerulean archipelago is split. The south island is Lunalnan, the north being Avendorias. If you are from outside Kanto, list your hometown as N/A. We don't know how other regions look yet.)
Starter: (These aren't guaranteed so you'll be requesting 2 Pokemon and getting only 1 of the 2 in the RP. First list your standard 4 pick, then pick one you'd rather have as a starter. If you'd rather start with one of the standard 4, then only list which of those you want. The second one isn't required, but a standard 4 pick is mandatory. The second choice must be the lowest evolved form in its family. No evolving Pokemon are a case-by-case basis. If you aren't just starting out but already have Pokemon, list this as N/A. Give me the gender and natures you want for each of them, though keep in mind you should select natures based on how you want it to act, not because it gives the stats you want in the games!)
Personality: (Describe your character's behavior, likes, dislikes, passions, dreams, etc. Make your character interesting and fun. One that can really add a solid dynamic to the group! Give a solid description of a few paragraphs.)
Appearance: (Ugly, beautiful, whatever. As long as it's realistic. Be sure to describe each aspect of the character thoroughly, minus the obvious things that need not be mentioned. Eyes, hair, skin, face, body type, height, typical clothing style for various weather conditions, accessories if there are any, and tattoos if there are any. Don't draw it out but give us a clear idea of what your character looks like. No pictures are allowed unless they the EXACT appearance of your character and it is a picture created by you and you alone. You still have to fully describe them in writing with or without a picture. A few solid paragraphs is expected.)
Biography: (Give me a solid idea of your character's background. It doesn't have to be too in-depth but I want to know how the character related to family and people he or she knew growing up, how their environment affected them, how they came to decide to train Pokemon, etc. If you need information on a nation or region where they're from, ask me first. If you're from outside Kanto, this is lest restricted but you will have to talk to me first before submitting a bio.)
Pokemon: (This is for experienced trainers only. New trainers getting their starters will NOT fill this out and instead list it as N/A. Experienced trainers must underline the one that was their starter. I may ask you to change the Pokemon you have based on the character you give me. I want genders and natures for them as well. Remember, make sure natures match how you will roleplay each Pokemon.)

And there you have it! I will throw up my own sign-up soon so people can become familiar with my character, as well as the format I expect for those who may still be confused.

    Have fun!
