For the longest time now I've wanted another game like Pokémon Stadium that prioritizes battling with Legendary Trainers with rental Pokémon over training up a team to defeat the Elite Four. I've often thought about doing it myself as well but there are too many issues I tend to run into while doing so. One of which is balancing the levels of enemy Pokémon. I noticed the topic about raising the level cap, but saw that lowering it was never even considered and was afraid to bump it to ask. This, however, would ruin trade compatibility with other hacks with Pokémon below or above level 50 anyway so the only obvious solution would be to impose the level 50 all ruling for all Pokémon currently in the hack. In theory this would allow any traded Pokémon to keep their stats and level, but be balanced with all other Pokémon as long as they remained in the hack.

Of course, I'm not sure how exactly this is controlled. I imagine there's a flag in-game that's checked once the player enters the Battle Tower in FR/LG or a Battle Facility in Emerald, but I'm not sure if turning that on at the beginning of the game would cause any unintended affects.

My current theory involves checking that flag from the beginning of the game, and only unchecking it when the player attempts to trade Pokémon (as to not cause issues with trading). Of course this is only theorization and may or may not be practical.

So rather than pulling my hair out doing something I don't entirely understand I was hoping someone here could possibly help. If it really is as easy as I'm assuming it is, it shouldn't take too much research. If not then this topic could be a very useful resource for creating a patch to use in PGE or G3HS should someone else want the same thing I do.

I'm willing to help as far as my abilities will allow. I can do basic hex editing with at the very least some simple instructions so I'm not entirely oblivious to the entire process. Thank you all in advance and, if I happened to break any rules, please don't hesitate to tell me so I can amend this topic ASAP.

You can use this to disable EXP gain, and then make it so that the player only ever receives and encounters every Pokemon at lvl. 50. You'd have to edit the events that give you Pokemon and any wild encounters, should you want them. From there, all you have to do is edit the trainers so that all their Pokemon are lvl. 50 too. All you have to do after that is script the battles you want to happen. You can also do this for lower levels (so you can do stuff like Little Cup, for example).

If you want the player to be able to level up their own Pokemon but have it stop at 50, I can't help you there.

oh, wow! you were so close in the raising the level cap thread~
if you want to change the level cap to 50, just
    Spoiler:
trev's solution is so much better if you want the stadium-esque feel

then why, blurose, did you post?
i only said anything because of the mention of the level cap thread ok

the trading compatibility thing is really something you shouldn't worry about, honestly, but that's my 2 cents

JPAN's hacked engine has a "all trainers with Pokémon at XX level" feature, which might come in handy. You should check its documentation.
