    Can someone please explain a Ponyta evolving into a Rapidash at Lvl 35?

    When fighting Barry (Rival) I noticed his Ponyta evolved at Lvl 35. And I say it because I have a Ponyta, which I believed would evolve at lvl 35 or so, so I looked it up and it "starts" at Lvl 40.

    I'm guessing his Ponyta is Special?
     
    Are you new to Pokemon or something? This isn't anything "new" in Pokemon games. Trainers in every game has evolved Pokemon before their designated level. There's even Pokemon in the wild that's evolved before their evolution level.
