Hi everyone!
I'm working on a story-driven Pokémon ROM hack called Gray Triumph, set in a BW2-inspired world. Instead of a typical "collect badges, beat gyms" formula, this hack centers around relationships, emotional storytelling, and the quiet strength of a boy named Grey, who begins his journey forgotten—until he forms a bond with the Mythical Pokémon Victini.
In a region where dreams are dictated by status and legacy, Grey has neither. No Pokédex. No recognition. Ignored by professors and overshadowed by rivals, he walks a path not meant for heroes—until Victini, the Pokémon of Victory, sees in him a flame no one else does.
With no Poké Balls, Grey doesn't "catch" Pokémon—he connects with them. Through the mechanic Flame of Camaraderie, Pokémon may choose to join him after battle, drawn by trust rather than capture.
Alongside N, the idealist who once opposed the system, Grey journeys through a fractured Unova—not shaping fate by force, but by presence.
Not every triumph ends in a championship. Some begin when the world forgets your name—and you rise anyway.
🔥 Key Features
🧬 Flamebound Forms – Like Mega Evolutions, unlocked through Victini's bond and a key item called the Unity Tie. Each Flamebound Form either gains Fire as a secondary type or has one type replaced by Fire.
🪢 Unity Tie – A braided ember-thread said to carry Victini's original spark. When worn, it allows Pokémon to enter Flamebound Forms through their connection with Grey.
💡 Examples:
🎭 No Poké Balls – Pokémon choose to join through Flame of Camaraderie, Victini's bond-forging ability.🤝 Persistent Double Battles – Grey and N fight side-by-side for large parts of the game.🎤 Signature Duet Attacks – Unique "Show Stoppers" moves tied to side arcs with Curtis or Yancy.
- Flamebound Zoroark – Dark/Fire | Smolderveil: Illusions cast by Zoroark burn brighter. The first time it takes damage, it becomes untargetable for a turn (hidden in flame). Its mane becomes a flowing, ember-like trail. Glowing red V forms across its chest like a war paint symbol.
- Flamebound Beartic – Ice/Fire | Ashfrost: Contact may burn or freeze. Water attacks heal slightly. Its icy fur steams constantly. Fire and frost swirl together, with a bright V of molten ice glowing from under its throat.
- Flamebound Escavalier – Bug/Fire | Vanguard Flame: Below 50% HP, gains +1 Atk and Speed. Fire-type attacks ignore screens/stats. Armor is scorched-black with glowing red-orange seams. Its lances are ablaze—like molten jousting weapons. A glowing "V" crest forms on its chestplate, looking like a knight's insignia. Its plume now burns like a vertical torch when idle.

I've written out some of the story and am handling scripting/coding myself—but this game is more than one person can bring to life alone. While I don't have finished art yet, the aesthetic is BW2-inspired with ember-and-flame motifs centered on Victini. I'd love to collaborate on the visual identity together.
