This might be a reach but are you able to trade with vanilla games like R/S or FR/LG when playing on an Everdrive with a link cable? Would also extend the question to Colosseum/XD.

When I released this romhack my idea was that it would be compatible with other games. However, the scope of the game changed after a few updates and, currently, it is untested and might (probably) not work.

Absolutely LOVE this hack - pretty much everything I've been looking for. Seems like the best one out there by a fair margin! A couple of questions, though.
1. Is there any expanded documentation? I'm thinking - Level Curves on each difficulty, Pokemon with updated stats/movesets (more of an FYI, I know we can see this after catching)
2. Is it compatible with cheats/pkhex? Most things are movable in the game, but sometimes can be tough with money.
3. I think I'm still confused as how rematches work for different trainers - could someone walk me through quickly?
4. Is there any way you can add Technician to Breloom (such a fave to use in game), or a way I can mod myself (I am very very very new to modding so won't particularly be able to code)
5. Any way to add a feature to go straight to Pokedex screen from party? (this might already be here and I'm being dumb - it happens frequently)

I have an answer to your 2nd question and this applies to any Romhacks that are decomps and since this one is a decomp, Pkhex sorta kinda works. Here's what I mean by this:
- I was able to see the first 30 pokemon in my boxes and I think I was able to see my party just fine. I was able to change the pokemon fine as well, the ones I could see at least.
- I was also able to see the items just fine but I mainly just messed with the pokemon. I was able to change the number of items and such.
As far as cheats go, I highly doubt they work since decomps change a lot of stuff around, so pkhex was the closest I got. However, Modern Emerald does have a infinite rare candy and infinite repel box very early in the game, so that helped out tremendously. I was able to get through around 95% without cheats, so it's very solid in that regard.

I can't hatch the Wynaut Egg in nuzlocke mode. It says it is blocked by the Nuzlocke Tracker, but I don't have an encounter for Lavaridge Town besides the unhatched egg.

Ahh that's great - I'm able to load it in to pkhex, but when I try to put it back into the game it does the 'corrupted save' thing. Any bright ideas? I'll re-itterate I'm so so bad at coding/modding so go easy!
I know other rom hacks have 'devkit' style editing guides - does this have anything similar?

1. There's no expanded docs, but on the main documentation you have all the info on updated stats. Movesets can be checked via the Pokedex (but there is no doc containing all the changes, there's too many of them)
2. No. Decompilation hackroms can't use those programs or cheats if they change too much stuff, and that is the case. Please read the FAQ to learn how to enable the debug menu, which will do whatever you want to do with cheats or programs but ingame.
3. Same as in the original, but now their levels scale better and higher. Plus you can rematch the Elite 4 and Champion (and they have new teams).
4 and 5. Not planned right now, sorry.
You need to move to a place where you can have an encounter and you haven't got any. In Lavaridge there are no wild Pokémon, so no encounter, and the egg doesn't hatch for that reason.

Ok, so just discovered the debug menu... WHAT???? This is pretty wild -and SO WELL ORGANISED, seriously a dream thank you! more respect than can be expressed on how well organised this whole rom hack is. Hats off!

This romhack looks amazing! Definitely gonna be the definitive "vanilla+QoL true to gen III" Emerald game that I'll be playing. Still gotta keep up on my Seaglass and the Altair/Sirius, Vega & Procyon/Deneb tho, the other transformative or I guess freely creative romhacks! (^∇^") Since I'd still call this one transformative!
And on another more serious note, I respect and thank you for standing your ground in the early days of your post and sharing your creation here. People can be overbearing and too critical, even acknowledging the fact constructive criticism is helpful. I also see on occasion, not just with Pokémon romhacks but stuff like Fire Emblem, players who are quite demanding, in a way that's out of line. Not that I see it bad bad in this thread (but I'm not about to read 50 whole pages to fully confirm this 😂). And as they say, if you give someone an inch, they want a mile. Listening to the wrong person too much can ruin a project, which is why balance is good, and I'm also glad this got so much exposure for that.
Your own personal vision on this is what matters most of all.
I love that you see that and understand you can't please everyone, moving forward with that. Especially with TMs, I agree having them be infinitely reusable is the best. Black and White introducing that mechanic was so game-changing and revolutionary, and as much as Gamefreak are notorious for omitting great features in older games when they make new titles, the outrage if they reverted that change would be unfathomably high, bc it'd be really stupid lol. Imho.
There's nothing "modern" about a main catalogue of breakable/limited use TMs (TRs in Sword and Shield exist only beyond the main 100 and are farmable). Scarlet and Violet loosely are exceptions, because while TMs are one-use each, the way they implemented it is neat. Farming for the TMs' materials isn't too difficult. Technically every single TM in that game is infinite, unlike RSE or DPPt where only certain TMs can be bought. Plus cash is so easy to rack up, so even with some costing higher prices, it's passable.
Anyway tho, all the other changes I saw being made are nice, like the few later generation moves being added in, as well as some cross-generation evolutions. Even if I won't use all of them, it's neat. And only what you found strictly necessary, after listening to the feedback and grievances, coming to your decisions. I respect them and believe they improve the overall experience for the most amount of players while maintaining the integrity of your vision and creation.

I can confirm that trading with the official games indeed works on 2.3.1. :)
Was able to trade a Poochyena from Sapphire to Modern Emerald with a link cable.

I'm facing the same issue with (modern) synchronize in 2.3.1 too! I tested using ralts with synchronize and different natures - out of 15 encounters, I didn't catch any with the same nature as ralts 😅

I've said it before, but this is still the premier way to play Pokemon Emerald in 2024. I played through another hack recently, Emerald Seaglass, and as visually pleasing as it was, I found myself constantly missing the features of Modern Emerald. It'd be awesome if someone were able to use this hack as a base and overhaul the graphics one day.
