((Battle : Fact Checking Gardevoir and Alex Among Foxes))
In the heart of the volcano, a circular piece of basalt, surrounded by scalding hot lava, had been chosen as the place to fight. Standing on the right side, a Charizard let out a challenging roar, his blue eyes zeroing on the Magmortar in front of him. The Magmortar, equally determined to come out on top, readied his flamethrowers and set his sights on his challenger. And so the battle started. The orange Pokémon, knowing his Fire type moves would hardly bother an opponent such as a Magmortar, opened his mouth wide, forming the bright energy of a Dragon Breath attack. With a powerful roar, he threw his head forward, unleashing the bright cone of energy towards his foe.
The blast hit the Magmortar directly in the chest, knocking him back and nearly off his feet. He quickly recovered and retaliated with a Thunderbolt fired right out of his arm cannon. But Charizard was expecting this. With a grin, he placed his tail on the way of the Thunderbolt's arcing and swiftly enlarged his tail tip's flame, stopping the electricity there with no effect. Then, as his flame returned to its normal size, Charizard took flight. Closing in on his fiery opponent, he dove, intending to strike him with the Acrobatics move. The Magmortar, large, but not unagile, dove out of the way of the incoming Charizard. Taking advantage of the Charizard's close range, the Magmortar threw a wild Thunder Punch at the back of his enemy's head.
Charizard, taken aback by the Magmortar's quick reaction, tilted to the left in the hope this would put him out of the Thunder Punch's reach. But it did not. The fiery Pokémon's arm slammed into his right side, and the winged Pokémon roared as electricity surged around him. Thrown off-course, he crashed to the ground and rolled to a stop at the edge of the arena. But it would take more than that to take him down. Teeth bared, he got back on his feet, shook his head and slammed his left foot on the basalt made ground, starting an Earthquake. The vibrations swiftly rippled towards Magmortar.
Feeling the harsh vibrations starting, the Magmortar braced for the impact, but the Charizard must have been more dazed by the punch than he originally thought, because the Earthquake stopped before it became violent enough to cause any damage. The Magmortar then retaliated by grabbing some of the rubble made by the quake, and throwing it at the Charizard in a glorious Rock Tomb. Charizard tried dodging the thrown rubble, but tripping on a fallen rock at his feet, he was unable to avoid being hit. Losing his breath, he struggled to catch his breath as he slowly heaved to push the rubble of him. It had hurt, but thankfully, had not been critically hit. His frustration rising, Charizard growled.
"You want to do it the hard way ? We will do it the hard way."
The dragon-like Pokémon prepared a Hyper Beam. Wanting to maximize his chances, he grabbed one of the rocks and threw hit right at his foe, then immediately released the powerful beam in Magmortar's direction. Without much time to react, to avoid the devastating Hyper Beam his opponent fired at him, the Magmortar tried to jump out of the way! But ended up jumping right into the flight path of the incoming rock instead. Dazed from the rock, and suffering a searing back wound from not fully dodging the beam either, the Magmortar collects himself and responds.
"Gonna have to cheat to win, huh? Well, if that's how it's gonna be."
The Magmortar then pretended to charge another Thunderbolt, but instead of firing, quickly switched to his other cannon and shot an Acid Spray aimed right at the Charizard's wings instead. The Charizard, no longer as fast as before due to the toll of the battle, was not able to fully dodge the attack and the Acid Spray splattered on his right wing, sizzling against the membrane. He closed his eyes briefly and growled. This was not a devastating move, but it sure did hurt, and it was still enough to take from him the ability to fly until the battle ended, one way or another. Still roaring, the winged lizard gathered his energy to unleash a Dragon Pulse.
The Magmortar, no longer underestimating his opponent, had anticipated this. He easily dodged the incoming pulse, then retaliated with one of his own. A devastating Hyper Beam. But Charizard managed to react in time. Ducking low, he watched the powerful beam launched by Magmortar fly over him. Taking the occasion, he barreled forward, a clenched claw raised, with the intent to deliver a hard Mega Punch. Closing in, he threw his glowing fist towards Magmortar's face with a fierce roar. With the energy required to charge and fire a Hyper Beam taking a lot out of him, the Magmortar was left unable to react to his enemy's counterattack, and received the full force of the punch to the face. He was thrown off his feet and a good distance back towards the edge of the arena. He slowly got up, feeling the headache caused by the impact, which he then decided to share with his opponent, by using Psychic.
Charizard tried using his valid wing in the hope to lessen the Psychic wave's effects. It still hurt though, and the dragon-like Pokémon staggered backwards.
Shaking his head to recover from the dizziness, he beat his valid wing energically, using the Scorching Sands move, sending a bright orange glowing cloud of scorching hot ashes towards the Magmortar. When the superheated dust cleared, the Magmortar was nowhere to be seen. Charizard had lost sight of his foe.
"Where are you... ?"
Then, the sound of heavy footsteps quickly approaching from the side caught the Charizard's attention. It was the Magmortar, charging in for a Take Down. Charizard turned but not swiftly enough. The bulky Magmortar slammed into his side, taking him down with the momentum. Charizard could only let out a strained growl, pressed between the rocky ground and his foe's weight. He wriggled in an attempt to break free, while retaliating with a Slash. The retaliation strike was expected, but no less painful. The Magmortar, doing all he can to maintain the advantage, pulled away from the Charizard to avoid a second hit, but still close enough to lunge back in with a Fire Punch.
Charizard bent backward, his long neck arching away from the Magmortar's fiery fist while turning on himself. Using the momentum, he swiped his tail in a circularn Dragon Tail attack, aiming at his opponent's face with all his strength. The blow hit its mark dead-on, sending the Magmortar staggering back a step. After a moment, he turned back around, cracked his neck, then smugly grinned at his opponent.
"Nice shot, I'll give ya that. But I haven't even been trying all that hard. Get ready for pain you oversized lizard."
Then, the Magmortar raised his hands as if to fire another attack at the Charizard, but quickly switched targets to the rocky cliff near this part of the arena, in an attempt to bury his enemy alive in a Rock Slide. Charizard was ready this time, and jumped out of the Rock Slide's path.
"You wish, Wingless Duck!"
Closing in again, Charizard went for the Bulldoze move, stomping on the ground to try and strike his foe.
"You're pretty good, lizard, but I'm better!"
The Magmortar shouted as he jumped backwards, out of the way of the Charizard's attack. It was then that he scooped up one of the fallen rocks from the failed slide and Flinged it at his opponent. Needing a second to straighten, the orange Pokémon didn't have the occasion to dodge. The flung rock hit his other wing, causing him to roar. He then gritted his teeth in frustration. With two wings battered, Charizard had lost his mobility advantage over Magmortar. Closing his eyes and taking a breath to focus, he then unleashed a Focus Blast.
"What, a little rock's all it takes to make the big lizard cr- WHA-?!"
They were the only words the Magmortar was able to get out before he was hit right in the chest by the Charizard's attack. The force, even considering the Magmortar's size, was still enough to throw him far off his feet and almost out of the arena entirely. Barely standing after getting the wind knocked out if him, he staggered to catch himself from nearly falling again.
"Oookay. I guess I deserved that. Will keep the arrogance in check until you're out cold at my feet. Now, TAKE THIS!"
The Magmortar leaned his head back, then lunged and shouted out his Hyper Voice. The sound wave lifted Charizard in the air under its power, and threw him flat on his belly, out of air and dizzy. The Fire and Flying type Pokémon breathed to get air back in his lungs, then slowly rose, shaking his head to shake the dizziness. But his ears still rung from his foe's attack, and he would need a while to hear again. His eyes zeroing on Magmortar, he unleashed a second Hyper Beam towards his foe's legs.
Let's see how you will take this, big duck! Having gotten the upper hand against the Charizard, the Magmortar, having lowered his guard again slightly, only barely managed to dodge the second giant beam to come his way, needing to fire his arm-cannons to his side to give him the extra force to push himself out of the way in time.
"I see you've still got some fight left even after I've blown your ears out. I wonder how your eyes will fair against the blinding light of the sun!"
Having said this, the Magmortar took a calculated risk in giving his opponent a chance to catch his breath while he began taking in light, charging up his powerful Solar Beam. Charizard had to take his breath after such powerful attack, and the fight had gone long enough to leave him slowed down by exhaustion. When the Solar Beam erupted from Magmortar's arm, the orange Pokémon barely had the time to move before the beam struck the ground where he had stood. But the resulting explosion swept him off his feet and threw him meters away. He then crashed heavily on the arena's rocky ground with a gasp. Gritting his teeth, Charizard slowly got back on his knees.
"I am... ah... not done yet!"
Too battered to use physical moves anymore, he opted for a Dragon Pulse. Charizard, unleashed, with a roar, a bright purple ball of energy. Also feeling very bruised and worn out from the fight himself, the Magmortar decided guarding and taking the pulse's blow was preferable to trying and possibly failing to dodge out of the way, and thus suffer a worse hit. He crossed his arms in front of his face and braced for the impact, which hit him harder than he would have liked, but not enough to knock him off his feet. He took a few deep breaths to recover himself, then fired back with a Lava Plume.
The orange Pokémon, with a surge of effort got back up. But swaying on his feet, he, like his foe, opted to shelter himself with his wings as the lava fell over him. But with said wings already hit, the lava still felt more than hot, and he growled as it splattered on his wings' scales and membranes. In the effort to shake it off, he fell back on his knees.
Heaving, Charizard defiantly stared at his opponent. He knew he would most certainly loose this battle. But, by Arceus, he would not fall without a fight!
Lava, eh ? Fire calls for fire!
Charizard took a deep breath, knowing this might be his final move, and unleashed a scalding hot cone of flames towards the other Fire type Pokémon in a powerful Flamethrower. Seeing that his opponent was on his last gasps, the Magmortar readied himself for the final blow, only to be then hit directly in the face by the Charizard's fiery breath. Normally, such an attack wouldn't do more than heat the Magmortar up, but due to his exhaustion from the prolonged battle, his guard was weakened just enough for the fire to scald his right eye, half blinding him. Furious with the sudden loss of most of his sight, he charged his foe ready to finish him with one last Fire Punch.
Charizard could only watch as the Magmortar closed in, fiery fist raised. But he did not move, his gaze hard as steel. He stared at Magmortar, waiting for the final blow.
The Fire Punch landed loudly on his jaw, and with a final roar, the winged Pokémon fell to the side and lied still, as unconsciousness took over.
Having finally beaten his opponent, the Magmortar collapsed to his knees next to him. The intense battle was finally over...
"Ugh... I'm gonna need a loooong day in the hot springs after this one... I'd offer to take you along, out of... I dunno, sports-mon-ship? But somehow I don't think the water's good for that flame tail thing you're rockin'. Anyway, see ya next week."
A while later, Charizard woke back up, and slowly sat on the dark rocks with a groan. He looked around and saw he was alone in the arena. Flinching as he rubbed a claw against his jaws, he grunted, then smiled.
Great fight, this had been! Next time, I will not go easy, Magmortar!
