    Pokémon MMO

    Reposted per request of Aegis.

    Greetings The Pokécommunity,

I've stumbled upon your community while running a search on the popular search engine Google in hopes to find an active Pokémon community. There is a great deal of reasoning behind this but I wish to take the hacking of the read-only-memory images of the Pokémon games to a whole new level. I wish to develop a Pokémon MMORPG.

Now, I'm sure you've seen a lot of people run right into the community and announce the development of a Pokémon based MMORPG and you may be quite skeptical about this. I'd like to take the time to give my reasoning as to why I'm different from the rest, and what my goal is.

I'd like to start by thanking you for reading this, and taking the time out of your day to read the text that follows. I'd like to dispel a few thoughts that may or may not be going through your head right now if your familar with a few terms:

If you are familiar with Mirage Source, you may notice a lot of Pokemon MMORPG's that are of poor quality, don't follow the games, or do not even have a proper battle system in place. I've come to change this.

So, with that covered I will proceed. I wish to create a mimic of the world of Kanto, Johto and the regions of Pokémon. I wish to recreate the games to the best of my ability with networking to create a true and unqiue experience seperate from all the other attempts of this particular game.

I hate to charge in here being new and all asking for help, but I am indeed in need of some. Recreating a world it has taken the developers of Pokémon so very long to create will not be a simple process to put back together. I am in need of a few people who believe in the project, and people who would like to contribute. You will not be bound to a schedule and may contribute what you can, no financial donation of any sort nor commitment will ever be asked of you.

Do you think the above suits you? If so, please do read on as I am confident with the right team we can truly achieve such a dream.

Someone whom is experienced in the Pokémon lore, I need someone who knows the lay of the land, the stories inside and out. If you think that is you read on or skip to the contact section which is clearly marked at the end of this post.

People whom wish to recreate the world, the game developer term can be referenced to as "map editor" or "mapper". At first you just need to be able to efficiently use the software provided to create maps that resemble and/or match the original maps of the games.

People whom wish to develop the game, to create the content of the world. Sure, we could as a team create the world exactly as the original developers did so but without our own content we might as well be making an exact replica!

Someone who thinks they are proficient in C# or whom has the desire to learn. I myself am somewhat good at the language and can handle most if not all of the needs of the software to create such a world.

We need you, regardless of where you live, where you are, what you do, your age, background, ethincy, position, or state of power. We need you, because you create the community and bring this all together. Without you, this will be nothing. Support, if anything support is all I ask.

Are you interested in any of the above position? You can just drop a post here, you could private message me or even drop me an e-mail, or instant message!

    Thank you,

Erm... Nice idea, heard it a million times..
At first I thought you were going to port the gba rom to allow network capability, with the way you were talking.. But I think you really do underestimate the sheer scale of the project if you are starting from scratch with C# as your aid.. Having developed a pokemon battle system and other systems using Rgss, I know exactly how much it will drain you and the ever-expanding workload will most likely cause you to give up eventually..
I like that idea that I assumed by mistake though, for I have played gba and snes games through my browser window.. With 99% of stuff pre-made and only having to code the online part, nobody has managed to do it yet...
FYI: I have only ever found 1 working pokemon mmorpg in 6 years and it was not fun to play, ugly walking animations and no battle animations = boring.. Sorry but people have projects of their own and it is rude for everyone to request help before they have even made a start themselves.. Makes me wonder if they did any of the work

Porting the GBA ROM is a plausible idea, however there is simply a limit on what a GBA ROM can hold. We will cap out very quickly and therefore be tough out of luck. As for your attack towards from scratch and C#; I'd like to point you in the direction of XNA. This aids the development of games greatly, it helps create games at a more rapid pace.

Recreating the base Pokemon Battle system is a very basic feat in a program language, pokemon itself is very simplistic is broken down to a bare system. It all comes down to formuals I might not have though and that is a problem.

Thank you for your feedback and time anywho.

Well I didn't mean it as an attack, rather a bewildered statement..
As for the formulae, there are plenty of sites that host information relating to pokemon formulae and even a few type-advantage tables but the graphics are a tedious thing and battle animations/pokemon data will be bigger tasks than expected.. Good luck to you sir

I'd help out but I'm not real interested in C#

Id love to help but seems like I can't
caus I only use RM2K3 and by the way do you have any Proof?
That you have made any Progress?
