Pokémon as a franchise has been rather prominent in the States, the EU and a good chunk of Asia, but over the last decade there's been a surge in ints popularity in south Asia, which presents a scenario of the franchise replaying its history again; the shows televised are Ash's journeys in Kanto, moving from then to Johto, and so on..
XYZ was a huge success and attracted an entire generation of school kids towards the franchise, enough to warrant an increased playerbase (albeit through emulators). Pokémon's popularity also draws parallels towards certain advancements in internet availability too.
I thought digging into it would provide an interesting read. It'd cover both the TV show and Video Games (the core series).
