1st Gen Pokemon Blue/Red: Missingno / insanley powerful pokemon trick

In Red and Blue I'm sure you are all aware of the missingno trick. Well, you know when you surf up and down the side of the island next to the gym, you either encounter the glitch pokemon missingo, or a level 0 equivalent, or even random pokemon with insane levels like 172 or 132 or whatever.

Anyway, whenever I used to do this trick, i would either encounter at random depending on the saved game a Snorlax or Alakazam with insane levels. I would catch them and feed these pokemon many rare candies until they went glitchy. And I think when I battled with the missingno monsters, they would evolve into level 0 pokemon, mostly Rydon I found. And I think I got an Abra once through it.

I read somewhere that the super pokemon you encounter has something to do with your trainers name and the characters you use for it, which I didnt quite understand. But, has anybody else ever gotten any different pokemon when experimenting with such things, or found the superly strong pokemon they encountered where different?

Oh and also I found that if you keep a missingno in your pokemon inbox and win the pokemon league the hall of fame gets messed up and glitchy, resulting in unusually deformed pokemon images names and cries. I've even got different layers of some of the music you encounter in some towns. Crazy huh? :paranoid: But it entertained me lots lol :cheeky:

There is already a thread about Missingno, but yes, that's the general consensus of Missingno. He doesn't delete your save game, all he does is mess up your Hall of Fame (all you have to do is see one for this to happen) and occasionally messes up some sprites temporarily.

Yes, the name of your character does depend on the Pokémon you find while doing the Missingno. glitch. You can strategically start a new game with a certain name to get the Pokémon you want. A full explanation of why this happens and what letters to use for what Pokemon can be found on the trsrockin site. For example, the name I chose for my Blue character (DxMyZx I think it is) allows me to see Lv. 200 and something Mewtwos and Alakazams and Lv. 0 M's, which are fun as they evolve into Kangaskhan.

so no matter what game cartridge you have you can still get the same pokemon as other people have by putting in the same pokemon trainer name?
