Ya hey dere. This is my game, and I hope you like it.
If you'd like to get involved, PM me. If you don't want to, at least posting something would be appreciated. I'm looking for a little collaboration here more than anything else.

Origins
My idea came from two places, one being the new GS remake stuff and the other just myself wondering what happens when some country folk get thrown into some crazy adventure beyond them. The time frame is shortly after Platinum.
The main character is the HGSS girl (let's call her Leslie). I figured she'd sit under Kris's shadow until she got an adventure of her own. All you really need to know about Leslie right now is that she does literally come off the farm and, because of that, her dialogue in the cutscenes will reflect her country roots. Oh, and she has one pokemon as a pet to begin with, a Mareep. It's her starter, and she never puts it away in a PC. Other than that, you can choose the rest of her team to be whatever.
Unknown Unown
Her aside, the primary conflict in PD is just as it sounds: something gets "deciphered". What? Pokemon, of course! The fact of the matter is that trainers collect them, researchers study them, battlers analyze them (smogon.com), and you know. But, really, how much do these people really know about pokemon? They know everything but a secret or two. One of them is the mystery of the Unown. The perfect setting for that is the Ruins of Alph!
So what are these Ruins? Alph was obviously some ancient civilization like Pokemopolis that collapsed because of something. That something still exists today. Crystal had four unexplained "riddles" which I'll remind you of.
If you've seen the Entie movie, then you know that the Unown have the power to create pokemon. That "Entei" to Molly's Kingdra (?) prove that they hold a terrible power. But we both know that magic doesn't exist in the pokemon world. How do they do it?
Getting into the details of how a certain character goes about deciphering it would get boring, so I'll just tell you what they needed to figure out/stumble upon. Unown have a Hidden Power, don't they? Think of the Unown as being in one big line. That line is just instructions for how to execute all of their dimension-altering and seemingly "magical" actions. It also has a spillover effect of looking like markings on the walls of the ruins. The Unown couldn't possibly remember what they had to do if they didn't stay in place or remember their place and return to it after straying. The Alph people understood this, but nobody in modern times has seriously tried to have another pokemon use the Unown's "magic".
Decoding the Unown's "instructions" is not as easy as I make it sound because no computer or human being understands pokemon that much. Now, if you had a pokemon that could somehow read thousands of lines in a few seconds, that would do it for you. There's already one in the franchise. Cool. So someone dangerous shortly into the adventure figures out how to dream up and "erect pokemon statues outside" without "magic".
Here's Where I Need Help
That's great, but, regardless if I elaborate on her character or not, I'm not sure what ANY evil-doer would do with that power. We're in Johto. Do the legendary dogs get involved? Do Gym leaders (the ones still in the region...Jasmine took a hike) take a stand? Or would people be alright with her conquering the region with her newly-made pokemon so long as she shared her "magic" with them?
On top of that, how at best can I get a farm girl involved? My goal is not to have this be a single-character effort, so obviously other characters (for example, Steven just left Sinnoh, so it's likely he is checking out Olivine City's Gym by invitation of Jasmine in Sunyshore City followed by stone hunting) will be fighting in more lead of roles than Leslie. And then...I have a little work yet. A suggestion or two would be appreciated. I'll take an opinion, too.
The Region
Like I said, we're still in Johto, but I don't have any interest in redoing the region as a whole. Instead, I'm just going to take the section I need and expand it. That would be Goldrenrod City through the Ruins as far out as the Whirl Islands (which I could expand based on the anime map of them). The mountainous region west of Ecruteak City gives a lot of room for side quests and dungeons (again, based on the anime's locations). I have it marked up on a Johto map, but nothing is finalized yet.

- They possess great insight and reject the outside world.
- Our worlds shall remain here for the ages.
- Thus we shall erect a pokemon statue outside.
- We humans must learn to walk in harmony with them. We depart for their sakes.
