Pokemon Derivation

    If you have any intelligence then I'm sure you've noticed by now that every Pokémon is made up of 2 different words that sum up what it is.

    Let's see how many we can derive. Do it in Pokédex order, please. If anyone gets stuck then pass it on to the next person. If you see any mistakes then correct them. Try not to post over 10 at once (even if you know them) so that the thread lasts longer. :D Good luck.

    001 Bulbasaur: Bulb + Dinosaur
    002 Ivysaur: Ivy + Dinosaur
    003 Venusaur: Vine? + Dinosaur
    004 Charmander: Charcoal + Salamander
    005 Charmeleon: Charcoal + Chameleon
    006 Charizard: Charcoal + Lizard
    007 Squirtle: Squirt + Turtle
    008 Wartortle: Water? + Turtle
    009 Blastoise: Blast + Tortoise
    010 Caterpie: Caterpillar + ...

    I'm not sure about Venusaur, Wartortle or Caterpie...
     
    Venasaur: Venus(as in, Venus Fly Trap)+Dinosaur
    Caterpie: Corruption of Caterpillar to make it sound cute

    11 Metapod: Matemorhasis+Pod
    12 Butterfree: Butterfly+free(corruption of butterfly)
    13 Weedle: Corruption of Weevil+needle(guess, I have no idea)
    13 Kakuna: Corruption of Cocoon
    14 Beedril: Bee+Drill(so hard[/sarcasm])

    From now on, how about one evo line at a time? I know a lot more, but I think that it should go by evo line, I did two because you alrready started the Caterpie line.
    P.S. some Pokemon are just corruptions of words.
     
    Caterpie
    Caterpie is obviously Cater+Pie

    Strange though, as the pokemon as nothing to do with Catering or Pie.
     
    OK, I'll do the Pidgey line.

    Pidgey- Pidgey is a pigeon, which is pidgey <used as an adjective>
    Pidgeotto- Pigeon with otto meaning the great pidgeon. <otto means great.>
    Pidgeot- Pigeon with a jet, i think, seeing as how fast he flies.
     
    @Foo Fighter: No. Caterpie is a corruption of CATERPIller.

    I'll do Spearow line. I mean... you never said in PokéDex order...

    Spearow- Sparrow+Spear
    Fearow-Sparrow+Fear (I think)

    Ekans = Snake backwards
    Arbok = Cobra spelled backwards (C replaced with K)

    I think it's supposed to be Weed + Needle. What is a weevil anyway?

    Anyway, as someone suggested, lets keep it to one evo line at a time then (unless it doesn't evolve, then you can say a few more) Any Pokédex number you want.

    Turtwig: Turtle + Twig
    Grotle: Grove + Turtle
    Torterra: Tortoise + ??? (I'm pretty sure there's some geographical thing that ends in erra...But I can't remember)
     
    Sneasel: Sneak + Weasle
    Weavile: Weave + Corruption of Weasle
     
    Shroomish- I believe this one is nothing more than a corruption of mushroom.
    Breloom- Umbrella + mushroom. I actually did not figure this one out untill a day or so ago.
     
    Torchic: Torch + Chick
    Combusken: Combustion + Chicken
    Blaziken: Blaze + Chicken

    If you think about it, the fire types tend to be the easiest to derive.
     
    oh these are really hard..(not)
    Chimchar=Chimp+charcoal
    Monferno=Monkey+inferno
    Infernape=Inferno+ape
     
    Diglett= Dig+lett(the -lett suffix usually synonymous with "small".)
    Dugtrio= Dug+Trio
     
    Articuno = Corruption of Arctic + Uno/1
    Zapdos = Zap + Dos/2 (Le Gasp!)
    Moltres = Molten + Tres/3

    Larvitar = Larvae + something
    Pupitar = Pupae + something
    Tyranitar = Tyrant + something
