On first glance, it appears that this site does have a pretty sizable community so I was wondering that, while this site does hold unorganized competitive/casual battle sections as well as tournaments, I was thinking maybe it would be cool if a Pokemon-centric forum actually held it's own leagues as well.. the ability to group people together would definitely negate most of the communication problems of the ones established on places like dA and facebook.

To maybe spread the community out you could possibly have anywhere from like 2-6 leagues that serve as sort of psuedo regions that you could identify by names like Crimson League/Emerald League/Sapphire League e.t.c. or maybe just use the whole Johto/Kanto e.t.c. for each. Each would have the 7 gym leaders (whoever is interested enough to try out and has a set team) and an Elite Four and the site and its users could sort of be divided between them for random "in-league" battles as well as the gym battles e.t.c. with stipulations like the "can't challenge for 72 hours after defeat" to make it so that leaders/elites wouldn't be overloaded... and maybe after beating the league you start in you can move to the next one down (or at the top if you start at the "bottom") to sort of keep it flowing and mix up the groups of people.

To also keep the volume fairly under control you could set things like you need X many posts to participate e.t.c.

I know it can be a fairly complicated thing to keep going but it could also be really awesome and would fit right in with the theme of this place.

Have you tried running this by the Competitive Battling Center regulars? Cause I am sure you will get more quick in-depth feedback that way. And just by being a lurker it doesn't look to be that PC could have multiple leagues in place at this time. One would be enough as it is if they could make it work. Just by looking at the Official PC Tournament there wasn't a magnitude of entrants like you would think there would be at a site of this size. While the site as a whole is big that doesn't guarantee that the competitive battling community is sizable. Anyways best of luck with this regardless of how it turns out.

These things always fall apart because it's far too difficult to get a group of people who are always available to battle every random person who comes across, and the novelty wears off very quickly.

People aren't Pokémon playing robots who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our battling community isn't large enough nor active enough to host such an idea even if everyone were totally into it etc. It's difficult enough to get people to play one match in a week or two for regular tournaments... but a whole league where everyone is constantly asked to battle? People aren't on call that easily, usually. :(

To also keep the volume fairly under control you could set things like you need X many posts to participate e.t.c.

Sadly, keeping activity under control is uhh never an issue, especially when compared to keeping activity, well, active. :(

It's a good idea, and I know I'd sign up but this place is too informal and disorganized (No offence intended) to mount a full-scale league. You'd want a forum dedicated to the Pokemon games and the games alone to have a league, such as Smogon. However, Pokecommunity is for socializing above all, or so it seems to me- if you wanted competition, I would advise you to take up residence in Smogon.

I've actually talked to Wolflare a bit about this and it may be a possibility if your battling community becomes more active in the future. Also, getting everybody together for a league of this caliber isn't a bad idea, maybe an MSN Group to chat and perhaps plan it out if this is able to become a reality could work? I know Serebii has a Xat chatroom for their league.
