Hi, I'm GuyNDFan and this is my story about two different Pokemon trainers. Each chapter will be separted in two segments; one in the Johto Region, and one in the Kanto Region.
Pokemon Legends
Chapter One
As the very first ray of sunlight peeked through his window, Red was up and out of bed. It was finally his time to get his first Pokemon! He was tired of being laughed at anyway; he was the oldest non-trainer in Pallet Town. Why, you ask? His mother finds Pokemon too dangerous for a young boy to handle, and for that reason, Red was forced to wait until the age of fifteen to acquire his very first Pokemon.
"Good morning, Red. I'll have breakfast ready in a few minutes." Red's mother says with a smile. She's standing at the stove, making scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon. She's wearing the new nightgown Red's father had given her a few months ago for Christmas; it was white with roses on it.
"I'm going to skip breakfast and head to the lab. Thanks anyway, mom." Red swung his backpack over his shoulder, and took off for the door. His mother was there first, however.
"I don't think so, young man. You're not going outside on an empty stomach." She removed the backpack from her son's shoulder, and placed it on the floor by the door.
"But mom," Red whined, "I've had to wait five years to get my first Pokemon, it's not fair!" He crossed his arms and glared at the woman standing in front of him.
Red's mother looked upward to meet the eyes of her son; it's not that she's a short woman, but that her son is a tall man.
"Exactly my point, young man." She replies, trying not to raise her voice. "You've waited for five years to get your first Pokemon, waiting ten more minutes shouldn't be a problem." And with that, she returns to the stove.
Precisely ten minutes later, Red was sprinting towards the lab of Professor Oak. Red's heart was beating faster than ever before as he pushed the lab door open. He stood in awe, gazing around the beautiful one room building. It was more stunning than he ever dreamed of it being! There were several men in lab coats walking around, working on various projects. Many bookcases covered the walls, each containing hundreds of books all about Pokemon. But best of all was straight ahead of Red, Professor Oak. The fifteen-year-old boy was so mystified by his surroundings that he didn't even notice he was walking towards the Professor. Oak was sitting at his computer with his back to Red. He was typing up an e-mail. The professor turned his head in response to the sounds of Red's shoes on the tile floor.
"Just one moment young man, then I'll be right with you." Oak's calm voice filled Red's ears. He just couldn't believe that right in front of him was THE Professor Oak! All these years that he'd lived in Pallet Town, Red had never seen him in person, and here he was! He looked exactly like he always had on TV, the gray hair, white lab coat with the red collared shirt and khaki pants.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting." The Professor said with a smile, as the computer sent his e-mail. Red's daydream was shattered by the Professor's voice.
"I'm here to get my first Pokemon." Red announced, feeling excited and embarrassed at the same time; after all, he is fifteen years old…
"Ah yes, welcome Red!" Oak extended his hand for Red to shake. Red shook the man's hand, then looked at him with a confused expression on his face. "Oh yes, that's right." The professor muttered, "You must be wondering how I know your name, since we've never met before." Red nodded for Oak to continue. "I'm a very good friend of your father's, in fact, I gave him his very first Pokemon, Pidgey." The Professor smiled, and seemed pleased to have given the famous Blue his first Pokemon. Blue is the final gym leader in Kanto, and Red's role model. As a child, Red would always go to the gym with his father to watch him battle anyone who challenged him. It was very rare for Red to see his father's Pokemon get defeated.
"Well then, I have three very rare Pokemon here for you to choose from. You may choose one, but choose very carefully; you will not be able to find the other two anywhere else but here." Oak smiled with delight. He could give that speech in his sleep, he was so used to saying it.
Red watched as Professor Oak opened each Pokeball. The first to come out was a small green Pokemon with a bulb on it's back. The Pokemon looked up and made eye contact with Red. "This is Bulbasaur, the grass Pokemon." Oak tells Red, he then turns around and grabs a small red object off the table behind him. "This is a Pokedex, this will be yours in a few minutes. When you see a new Pokemon, it will be recorded into this device. If you ever want to know anything about a certain Pokemon, point the Pokedex at it, and the device will give you all sorts of helpful information. If you own the Pokemon, it can even tell you its attacks. But me going on and on about this device isn't going to help you much, let me demonstrate."
Professor Oak opened the Pokedex and pointed it at the Pokemon in front of him. "Bulbasaur the Seed Pokemon. Bulbasaur grows by gaining nourishment from the seed on its back. Bulbasaur is best in the Special Attack and Special Defense categories. Its special ability is Overgrow, which powers up Bulbasaur's grass type attacks when it's weak." The Pokedex then becomes quiet. Oak smiles, and seems to be very pleased with himself.
"That is what the Pokedex does. Now, this is yours." He hands Red the small device, which Red places in his backpack. "Now, let's continue."
The Professor reveals the next two Pokemon, the lizard, fire type, Charmander, and the turtle, water type Squirtle. Red uses his newly acquired Pokedex to learn about the two Pokemon. The young man strokes his chin as he looks from Pokemon to Pokemon. All three of the creatures before him look fit to be his partner.
"I think I want that one." Red points at the Charmander. Professor Oak chuckles approvingly.
"That's a very good choice, Red. However, you'll have to be very patient while raising this one, the first two gym leaders you will encounter will have a type advantage against him." Red contemplates his choice again, then nods.
"I still want Charmander." Red is then given the Pokeball for his brand new Pokemon.
"You may want to keep him at your side instead of in the Pokeball. This will help build trust and friendship between the two of you." Professor Oak states. "Now, you two are free to begin your journey together. Oh, I almost forgot!" Oak grabs five Pokeballs off the table behind him and hands them to Red. "You can use these to catch Pokemon, but I assume your father has already taught you how to do that." Red nods, thanks the Pokemon Professor, and walks towards the lab door with Charmander at his side. But just before he reaches the door, it flies open, almost coming in contact with Red.
"Gramps, I've decided that today is the day I want to become a trainer!" Yells a young man with reddish-brown hair and dark green eyes. He's the same height as Red, and is wearing a purple shirt with black pants. If you were to put Red and this young man side by side, you would swear that they were twins. Although Red's eyes are blue, and his hair is a dark brown, he and this mystery man have a very similar facial structure, and body type.
"Now Gary, please calm down." Professor Oak begins, "You may come pick your Pokemon now, but please say you're sorry to Red for almost bumping into him." Gary now notices the fifteen-year-old standing in front of him.
"Sorry about that." He mutters, then he walks up to the table, and chooses Squirtle as his partner. "Thanks, Gramps."
"Gary, you and Red are the same age, and he two just received his very first Pokemon." Professor Oak informs his grandson.
Gary turns around to face Red, and gazes at the Pokemon standing beside Red.
"How about putting this two to the test?" Gary asks, with a wry smile on his face. Red looks down at his partner beside him, then meets Gary's gaze.
"Let's do this."
Chapter Two
Crystal was awakened by her sister, Lyra, as the first rays of sunlight appeared in Crystal's bedroom. Lyra was pounding on the door to wake up her older sister. Crystal slowly rose from her bed, and opened the door. Lyra came running in, all dressed and ready with her blue dress, and white hat with a red bow tied around it. She was prepared to pick up her very first Pokemon. Lyra had even done her hair, two tufts of brown hair hanging on each side of her head, ponytails.
"Well, you're ready bright and early, aren't you?" Crystal said before yawning. She and her sister looked very much alike, except for the fact that Crystal is seven years older, is taller, more developed, and has long brown hair.
"Yes!" Lyra squealed, bouncing up and down. "Professor Elm promised to get me a special Pokemon that he's never given to anyone before!"
"Well then, let me get dressed, and I'll take you to the lab." Crystal moved to her closet, and chose blue jeans with a white and pink t-shirt. She then went into the bathroom, to brush her hair, and put on make-up. "Ok, Lyra I'm ready!"
Lyra bounced all the way down the hallway to her older sister's room. The ten-year-old girl couldn't contain her excitement.
"Look at you." Crystal patted her sister on the head. "Mom would be so proud of you." Crystal and Lyra's mother passed away after giving birth to Lyra. Their father is Chuck, the fifth leader in the Johto region, in which they live in. Chuck isn't the only Pokemon trainer in the family, however. The two girls have an older sister and an older brother, Erika and Lance. Erika is the grass type gym leader in the Kanto region, and Lance is the Elite Four Champion who takes on only the strongest trainers from both the Kanto and Johto regions.
"Welcome, girls!" Professor Elm exclaims as the two sisters enter the lab. Crystal observes that the lab is very similar to Professor Oak's. She saw Oak's lab one time when she went to the Kanto region to see Erika. One major difference is the Pokemon healer in the back of the room, and another is a female staff member.
"Hi, Lyra is here to get her Pokemon that you promised to give her." Crystal explains to the professor. He removes his glasses, and wipes them with his white lab coat. "He dresses just like Professor Oak too." Crystal mutters under her breath.
"Why yes, of course!" Elm places his glasses back on his head, and bends down to Lyra's level. "I found the perfect Pokemon for you, it's very special. In fact, I had to go to a different region to get one. It's called an Azurill." He opened a Pokeball, and a small blue mouse like creature appears. It has a long tail with a large round, blue mass at the end.
"Oh my gosh, it's so cute! Is it a girl or a boy?" Lyra asks quickly. Elm smiles, then answers:
"It's a she." He replies. He then hands Lyra a Pokedex and explains to her its functions. "Now, it's your turn, Crystal." Elm stands up straight and focuses his attention on the young woman in front of him.
"Oh, I'm not here for a Pokemon. I just came for Lyra to get one, not me." Crystal grabs Lyra's hand, and she guides the young girl towards the exit.
"Well," Elm begins, "I don't see why not." Crystal stops and turns to face him. "You and Lyra come from a very long line of great Pokemon Trainers," he continues, "I'm sure raising a Pokemon of your own would come naturally to you."
Crystal shakes her head. "Maybe that's why I don't want to be a trainer." She says, "I've been around them since I was born, I'm just tired of them." Elm looks hurt, then grabs three Pokeballs on the table beside him.
"Please, just let me show you these three new Pokemon I've found. It might change your mind." Just as he's about to reveal the Pokemon that are inside the Pokeballs, the window to his right shatters! "What on earth!?!" Elm gasps, he puts the Pokeballs back down, and sprints towards the window. The Professor sticks his head out, and looks around. Then, just as he's about to pull it back inside, a fist collides with his face!
Lyra shrieks as the Professor lands on the floor in a heap. Seconds later, a teenager with red hair jumps through the window, and runs towards Lyra's Azurill! Just as he bends down to snatch the Pokemon, a well-placed kick from Crystal knocks him over. He lands on the table that has Elm's three Pokeballs. The devices hit the floor, and roll in three different directions. The young man picks up the Pokeball that landed beside him. He then gets to his feet, and runs like a mad man towards the window.
"Someone stop him!!!" A female scientist screams.
Crystal looks down to see what she just felt hit her foot… One of the Pokeballs!
"Take this!" She yells, and the Pokeball flies from her hand. It opens, and a small green Pokemon with a large leaf attached to its head appears.
"Chikorita, a grass Pokemon. Chikorita's moves include Tackle and Growl." Lyra's Pokedex explains.
Just as the man is about to reach the window, Crystal commands her Pokemon to tackle him. The small Pokemon collides with the man's back, and he slams to the floor.
"You're gonna get it now!" He throws his Pokeball, and a small blue and yellow rodent like animal with fire on its back is revealed. The mystery man grabs a Pokedex off Elm's desk, and learns that his Pokemon's name is Cyndaquil. "Scratch!"
Cyndaquil leaps towards Chikorita, but the nimble grass Pokemon dodges to the left.
"Chikorita, tackle him!" Crystal orders, and Cyndaquil is hit with all fourteen pounds of Chikorita. The fire Pokemon slowly recovers, and then is ordered to use smokescreen. The lab soon becomes black with smoke, and everyone runs towards the exit. Lyra, Azurill, the two scientists, and Crystal all fall to the ground coughing outside the lab. Professor Elm appears seconds later holding his head.
"What happened?" He asks groggily. As Lyra is telling him the story, Crystal is looking around. Chikorita must still be inside the lab! Crystal's legs carry her faster than she has ever ran before, entering the lab. Crystal tries to contain her own coughing, so she can follow the sound of Chikorita's coughing. Ten seconds later, Crystal emerges from the smoke with Chikorita in her arms.
When the smoke finally clears, everyone enters the lab to find what's missing. After a few minutes of silence, Elm speaks up.
"He took a Pokedex and Cyndaquil. Thankfully the other two Pokemon weren't taken as well." Elm looks over at Crystal, who is still holding Chikorita. "I have you to thank, Crystal. If it wasn't for you, that man probably would have Azurill and all three of my Pokemon right now." Crystal blushes, and tells the Professor it was nothing. "I'd like to reward you with Chikorita. You two seem to be bonding with each other already." Crystal places Chikorita on the floor beside her, and looks at the professor in awe. Elm hands her a Pokedex, and five Pokeballs. "You're officially a trainer, Crystal."
