Alright, I was laying in bed sick today playing Mystery Dungeon, and I thought of an(i hope) different sort of idea for a pokemon game. Most games are focused around battling and collecting badges and training and the like, but what about a game that focuses on breeding? Not sure if this has ever been done before, but I've been thinking and working on some rough ideas for the game, and was wondering what everyone thought. It would be a hack off of Ruby.

Basically, you play a girl/boy who has spent thier life living around Pokemon, living in Hoenn. Your mom is a champion pokemon coordinator, your father is a pokemon professor(not one of the more well-known ones, but just someone who dedicates their time to studying pokemon), and your older brother is a champion trainer. On your 12th birthday you are given a Taillow as a birthday present(your mom specializes in flying types).

You set out on your journey, nervous about all of the expectations, but as soon as you reach the next town(Verdanturf - you start in Rustburo), you find a group of people standing in the streets around a strange egg. Finally you find out that the egg just showed up out of no where that morning, and that no one knew where it had come from or what it held. The town elder asks you to take it, because since you're a trainer you'll be able to train it and care for it.

With a young Taillow and a strange pokemon egg, you begin your journey. There are no gyms to conquer due to a national tournament in Kanto, but there are many trainers to face, and most importantly, awards to be won by breeding outstanding pokemon. People known as Pokemon Evaluators are everywhere, and they offer rewards to those who can show them above-average pokemon. You decide to try and get every Evaluator's ribbon, because no one in your family has ever done that before.

So that's the basic plot. Now for the details. =)

Evaluators give out not only ribbons, but rare items and pokemon as well. There are 25 of them scattered throughout Hoenn, so 25 missions to complete. Below is a list of some of them, to give you an idea of what kind of pokemon they'll be looking for:

Evaluator 1 is looking for a Skarmory with Sky Attack for a Master Ball
Evaluator 2 is looking for a Salamence with Hydro Pump and Fire Blast for a Dragonite
Evaluator 3 is looking for a Jolly Poochyena for a Quilava
Evaluator 4 is looking for a Swellow with 10 contest ribbons for a Feebas
Evaluator 5 is looking for a Sassy Female Skitty with Blizzard for a Treecko
Evaluator 6 is looking for a Shedinja for a Ditto
Evaluator 7 is looking for an Aggron with 235 Speed for a Mudkip
Evaluator 8 is looking for a Mellow Vigoroth for a Smeargle
Evaluator 9 is looking for a Rayquaza for a Latios
Evaluator 10 is looking for a Cyndaquil with Crush Claw

So some are obviously more challenging than others, some require training or catching a certain pokemon, but most will require breeding. You don't have to give the evaluator the pokemon, just show him/her it, in order to get the reward. And also there may be some evaluator "chains," where in order to fufill one evaluator's request you need the reward from another evaluator. For example, the only way to get a Cyndaquil would be to breed the Quilava you get for showing the Evaluator a Jolly Poochyena.

    Other Features:

All Pokemon available in Ruby & Sapphire including starters
    Some extras from prior games
Original Hoenn layout with a few minor map changes(such as moving around trees or adding/removing houses)
    New trainers to battle
Old characters to battle(such as May and Brendan)
    Some new sprites, perhaps?
    A few new items?
    Gyms unlockable

    Sprites:

    Girl Trainer: https://i38.tinypic.com/hvoxfl.png

And finally, I can't script to save my life, so I'm going to need some help with that, among other things. If you're interested in helping with scripting, spriting, mapping, or beta testing, shoot me a PM and let me know what you can/will do. And even if you don't want to help, some support for the idea(or more suggestions for features) is nice as well.

I like this whole "evaluator" idea. Good luck with the hack, should you choose to complete it.

    :)

Only get started? I wouldn't recommend the creation of a thread unless a decent amount of progress has been completed overall in the hack.
I wish you luck for a beginning hacker.

I disagree. making a thread can form a team quicker most of the times, and people give criticism that may help improve it. People do need constructive criticismm to improve, and the help of other hackers may help.

Anyway, I like the idea of the Evaluators. Sounds new to me. I'll be supporting this!

good plot i like it. i hope it prospers into a great game!
