Pokemon: Nostalgia Version

First lemme just say that I don't know the first thing about ROM hacking. I didn't even know it existed until my friend had me play a ROM hacked game and I thought the concept was AWSOME. So here I am, just spouting some ideas that I think would make a really cool game and that I would totally play. I'm kind of a newb presently so if I misunderstood the premise of this board then the mods or something can delete this or move it, I just figured I'd supply my idea. *shrugs* If anyone likes it and want to mak it, fine, if not, also fine. Just posting an idea. Anywho, on with the show!

Pokemon Nostalgia (hope I spelled that right >.>), so-called b/c it incorporates elements all the way from the very first games AND the anime (for example, gyms in the sea foam islands that weren't in the game? they are now)

Hacked Game: Any/All GBA or DS versions since they have similar graphics. (If possible, it would be awsome to include Ranger on that list and have the hack playable on the computer so that one could use either the computer keys for traditional directional walking or the mouse to move diagonally or where ever you click just like with the stylus on the touch-screen. Just a thought)

NOTE: Anything listed below, much like the comment on Pokemon Ranger above, would depend on the skill of the hacker. This is just the ideal as I imagine it in my head; if nobody can actually do all the stuff I list/no one wants to, which is also a possibility, then obviously it wouldn't be exactly the way I describe it.

Features: Really long game-play for a real challenge, all the pokemon, possibly all the pokemon lands (Kanto, Johto, etc), time (morning, noon, night kinda thing like in the ds, gold, silver, and crystal games)

    FAQs: None yet.

Kudos to: (this will be a list of people who contribute ideas or do the hacking if anyone actually takes an interest)

Story: Much like the time the Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions are set in, this story takes place after Ash's. You're part of a new generation of Pallet Townians (is that the rght term?) who want to get started on the road to becoming a pokemon master. This time you have TWO rivals, one your best friend (gender and name depends on whether you pick to be a boy or girl), the other a shady character who may or may not be involved in the recent abduction of Professor Oak's pokedex files. Who stole all the hard-earned information that Ash and Gary and countless others contributed to the pokedex? Nobody knows, but it's your job to find out and get it back, b/c the good Prof is just too old to start over, and worse! The databases of his most-informed colleagues (Prof Elm, Ivy, etc) have been wiped too! Why would anyone do this? It's your job to find out. (I'll obviously provide this info and anything else needed if anyone actually decides to hack this for me)

The storyline isn't bad but the rest is a bit, blech, First of all, the name needs a change. Secondly there is no way in hell you're going to be able to incorporate things from all the games and the anime. Third, as far as I know, with convetional tools, Ranger, D/P and Mystery Dungeon are all currently unhackable. There is also no way to include every Pokémon in the games that can be hacked, there are only 25 blank spaces in R/S/E/FR/LG. Day-night systems are hard to script, you'd need a fairly advanced scripter to do so. Also, people aren't very likely to just use someone elses storylines, unless they're real n00bs so I'd suggest learning to hack if you want anything close to this done. Hacking isn't too hard to grasp, I've been doing it for just over a month and I'm fairly confident with what I can do.

My bad. Like I said, i don't know the first thing. I gave it that title 'cause I had no idea what else to call it w/o making it sound like I just picked a color out of a hat. A question, if i may:

How long does it take hackers to crack new games as they come out? Will there be any diamond/pearl hacks anytime soon?

Oh, another one: Why is there limited space as far as what the game can do if it's played on the computer? (or is it not played on the computer?? >.< Please have patience w/ me. I didn't see these kinds of questions on the FAQs)

No time to learn to hack presently unless it's WAY easier than it sounds; I'll take a crack at it this summer though. In the mean time, I'll get the specifics hashed out for it. Thanks for the comments. :)

Well for your first comment (name) I know plenty of hacks that aren't random colours, they can be random metals, randome gemstones or just random (like Nautical Requiem).

For your second comment, there is a thread in the ROM Hacking forum for D/P Hacking and they've been going since last April.

For number three, when hacking a game, we don't usually have the freedom to do as we please, we have limited memory for new Pokémon and towns etc. though the exception to this would be Pokémon Prism by Coolboyman.

For the last comment, I learned to hack in my spare time (I actually would have learned faster but I made the mistake of starting out with EliteMap). It shouldn't take more than a week to get into the swing of mapping.

I think this hack has a lot of potential if it helps.

Awsome! You've been really helpful. Thanks bunches. ^.^ I think maybe I should start after I've got my specifics figured out, so even if it doesn't take long I'll probably have to wait until summer anyway. Thanks though. :) I'll get on it.
