Pokemon/Pokedex Questions. Help!

I just bought the guide for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl yesterday, and the sinnoh pokedex only has a little over 100 pokemon. How are poeple trading pokemon that arent from this game???

the sinnoh pokedex has 150 pokemon

Once you've beaten the game more pokemon become available. You can also transfer pokemon over from the older games.
