i've lurked in the pokemon fangame/romhacking scene for a few years and i wouldn't put myself as inexperienced with tools from the community, just rusty, and now that i have an actual outline for a game i'm not sure which is best for it. i don't know how much pokemon tools have progressed since i last tried them, and i don't know enough about the limitations of rpgmaker xp vers. which would be better to use, added with the fact that i want to revamp/"reinvent" old game functions?

There are 2 different types of game developing 1 is RomHack and Another one is Rpgxp.

If you want to revamp or reinvent game then I recommend Rom hacks.

    RomHacks:
There are lot of tools you need to use and edit a Rom hack ex- Palette editer for Editing Colors and Advanced map for Editing Map,i think 1 or 2 tutorials are there for romhack.

    Rpgxp:
Essentials and RPG maker xp is enough and if you confused then see Thundaga tutorials.

It's up-to you to choose which one is best.
