Hopefully that's a more pleasing title than "Nostalgia Version" that i posted in the ROM-Hacks section. After seeing what Captain Arcane did with Sphere I've decided to undertake my own project, also using Sphere rather than ROM-Hacking. Mine will have a completely different story line and won't have an online version (unless I get a heck of a lot better at Sphere than I currently am), and will have a lot more differences. I really like his huge-map idea so I think I'll borrow it (though obviously I won't be using his maps).
Creating the Game Using: Sphere
Level of Experience: Sadly, presently none, but everyone started there so w/e.
Notes: I don't really expect anyone to help me out with it but if you want to that's fine with me. If for some odd reason you do want to help and you want to do maps contact me before-hand b/c I want the maps to be as close to the anime version as humanly possible (even closer than Arcane's version--i'm VERY picky XD, and if you've seen his you KNOW that's a huge deal, 'cause his are amazing). This is going to be project that I work on part-time so don't get all excited or something (not that i expect anyone to since i'm a n00b and have no reputation here XD). Anyway, on with the show...
Features: I'm going to TRY to do all the regions (notes on that at the bottom), all the pokemon, night/dark, you know, all the good stuff. Also like the guild idea someone posted in Arcane's thread. I assume the idea is up for grabs but I will check before I start working on adding it. Possibly a fakemon ghost-form Eevee (goes with the story) and a baby form for Kangaskhan the way it looks in the anime (i know it's normally considered just a baby and not a true baby form but to me they don't look anything alike so...).
Story (obviously plot-spoilers follow): This is set in a time after G/S/C, which means that there will be some changes and the story won't be Ash's or that ofanyone else that's been seen previously. You do, however, start out from Pallet. You pick one of three starters (yep, Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle). Only this time, you're given a pokemon b/c the good Prof wants you to track down whoever stole his Pokedex Files. Those things were his life's work, and now they're all gone. Who took them? (well even I don't know 'cause I don't have a team name yet) They went north, so you follow them all the way to Pewter, only to find they've stolen valuable evolution stones and fossils from the museum. You journey around Kanto trying to catch up with the theives (occasionally battling one of their members, not giving away too much info), who steal other items such as Bill's cloning machine, eventually tracking a group of them down at the Power Plant near Cerulean. Awfully small group for such a big operation, but *shrug* might as well battle and not ask questions since they're not getting you anywhere. After battling the person who appears to be behind the operation (no name yet for him either) you get back the pokedex files, only to find out that the real leader of the group (i DO have that figured out, and it's an NPC who's been really insigificant in the games so far. see if you can guess) already has the information he needs and is on Cinnabar Island (stealing the fossil reviver). By the time you get there the place is in shambles again after just having been rebuilt (remmy in G/S/C it was blown up by the volcano eruption) only this time the thieves destroyed the place. A witness says he thought he heard them talking about going to Lavendar Town...
Up in the pokemon tower the theives have all the room they need plus all the parts from the Power Plant to power their machine. They plan on creating the ultimate pokemon (they have some notes from the Mewtwo project), even better than Mewtwo. For this they have a small Eevee, who is helpless to fight back. In the anime, it's been said that using more than one stone at a time on an Eevee is a bad idea, and they were right, but the theives don't care. They're willing to mutate the poor pokemon's dna to create the most powerful Eevee evolution ever! muahaha. XD (actually it'll end up being about as powerful as the average basic ghost type pokemon. i'm not THAT cheap) You get to their new base of operations just in time to see Eevee die. They're about to ressurect it when you show up to stop them. A battle ensues and the foes leave when you beat them, but while you were battling their boss one of the grunts turned on the machine to ressurect it, so the poor thing is laying there in great pain as they leave. Bill, obviously an Eevee expert, shows up to bring it to Johto where he can care for it. (he also names it Spireon before he leaves. the thing is very weak from having its dna warped until it died and then being brought back to life as a ghost type)
Mewtwo, being the powerful psychic that he is, finds out about this gross mistreatment of the Eevee and sets out to destroy the one he thinks is responsible (Bill, who has the Spireon). Time to save Bill. (that will be the Johto quest. details like how Mewtwo found out and more details on how one saves Bill will be provided later if anyone asks, but my fingers are getting tired.
Bill gives you a pass to get to Hoenn after you save him, but as soon as you get there the port is shut down. It appears that there's an epidemic of a new strain of pokerus called the pokeflu, and all ways in and out of Hoenn are now closed. Pokeflu works like the poison stat except it takes double the amount of steps for your pokemon to receive damage from it and taking your pokemon to the pokemon center doesn't cure it. It's VERY contagious so your pokemon are infected with it pretty much as soon as the police officer at the port finishes telling you "sorry, you can't go home". after some snooping you discover the virus was actually manufactured by the same guy that you battled for the pokedex files before, and now he's charging money for a cure to it (obviously no one else knows he made the virus). Not only do you have to beat him, you have to find the secret to the cure.
No quests yet for Sinnoh, Orre, etc
Problems: 1. I want to take one of the Nidorans out of the pokedex and list them both as #29, just the male and female versions, since that's how they should be listed anyway (in my opinion). That will also leave a nice gap for Spireon (the Eevee fakemon) as a lot of the first 150 set will be moved up by one. I'm not sure where to place the baby kanga form on the list though or even what it should be called. Ideas? (I'm thinking Genghey)
2. Obviously a pokemon game with all the regions would get ridiculously easy to beat by about the third region when players started getting everyone to level 100. Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening? I don't want to raise level caps and I think it's unrealistic to put the badge caps back on for every region (sorry Cap'n).
3. I need a team name for the bad guys. I'll either pick one from a list of suggestions if anyone gives any or I'll eventually come up with one.
4. Eh, I need a story-line for some of the regions. >.<
5. Going to post a prototype Spireon sketch. if anyone wants to supply one they think is better I might use it. Don't post it if you found it on the internet or something and you didn't make it yourself.
That should give you the basic idea. i'll add more details such as how one joins a "guild" (becomes a breeder, etc) if anyone's interested. frankly, those kinds of things are a looong way off. this thing will get released in betas city-by-city (or route-by-route as appropriate), and only after the main story lines for all the regions will anyone be able to do the more specialized stuff like becoming a breeder.
