So I've been considering making my own version of pokemon. This idea will be a reimagined pokemon in some ways. It will be a bit more complicated with typing and what not.
-Pokemon types are split into different classes. Elementals, Holders, and Hybrids.
In my version there will be a great culling of moves. For example moves like and bug bite will be renamed and not have a specific type.
Holder type elementals like Rock, Steel, Dark, and normal will change many classically "normal" type moves to what ever type they are.
So geodudes "tackle" will always be a rock type move, while Poochyena's tackle will be dark type. The perk of being a holder type is the flexibility you have with moves holder type pokemon will have more moves of your type. The disadvantage is that you will not have "normal" moves if they aren't normal, and you will not have STAB moves.
Some of the holder types I'm considering.
-Steel
-Dark
-Normal
-Ghost
-Bug
-Flying
Elementals can have a STAB of whatever type they are. For example, Vine whip will be a STAB move of Venusaur, while tackle is not a stab move to any one.
Elementals would include
-Psychic
-Water
-Electric
-Grass
-Fire
-Poison
-Ground
Hybrids blend elements from both, they change moves to another type, and they give STAB bonus to another element.
-Dragon changes normal moves to rock type, and gives stab to fire.
-Fairy gives stab to fire moves and grants flying "normal" moves.
-Fighting turns all normal moves to dark and gets stab with psychic.
-Ice turns normal moves to rock and grants stab with water type moves.
>>> while there are no "fairy" "dragon" or "fighting" type moves. Defensively they get resistances shared by the types they a STAB bonus with and what their 'normal" moves become
Also some re balancing in terms of weaknesses and strengths will be rethought. Hybrids in theory would be the most overpowered. Also there's a possibility some moves will grant double stab with dual typings, i.e. "fire""dragon" grants a 3x Stab instead of a 1.5x
-Dragon would resist:
Grass
Flying
Normal
Poison
Immune to:
Fire
Bug
Weak To:
Water
Rock (They they are weak to their own type like in OG Pokemon)
^ just to give an example.
