Pokemon: the Corwen Chronicles

    So...your main question, probably, will be something like:
    "When all of this started?"
    It's...difficult to find just one answer. For the world, the day Hoenn announced it possessed nukes;
    for Corwen, maybe, when Emmanuel Stone was found shot.
    But for me, it all started when CB Panico came, saying he found a work for me...


    Plot
    Not everyone leaves. Yes, I know what the tradition is: at exactly ten, take a Pokemon and leave. Beat Gyms, train, try to become a Pokemon Master...routine.
    And yet, not everyone leaves. I didn't take my bag, nine years ago, leaping in a world of adventures: I chose to attend school, seeing Pokemons just in zoos and from a distance, during trips.
    And...that's it. Now I finished attending school, and maybe I'll accept Panico's job offer.
    Truck driver...that could be interesting as well.


    That's it. Kayle didn't leave for the usual Pokemon travel around the world, choosing calmness over adventure. And yet, nine years later, when his family friend Sebastiano "CB Panico" Panichetti offers him a job, helping him with the truck, it seems like he made, again, the safer choice.
    But of course, what it seems to be not always is...
    Because, when a misterious box is given to Panico, things will start going crazy: but the pack must be delivered, even if that means messing with what happened three years ago, in the rooms of the Pokemon League...​

    So, this is my great, first project. :laugh:
    It all started when I found ages-old drawings in a box (movie-like, 'til there XD), and those where mainly Pokemon. It tickled me, so, this summer, I started drawing sketches, on the character, the Big Bad Villain, map, conceptual schemes...
    Now, I'm here. I'm just at the beginning, but hey...you have to start somewhere, right?

    Features
    - Of course, the mandatory new region, Corwen. Placed somewhere near the known Pokemon world, but with no specific location, for now. It will be big: and I don't mean that it will have a lot of cities...even if it's true. But these will be greater than the usual ones: no more 2-houses villages.
    - Not really a feature, and yet I feel like saying it: you won't start in a tiny town! *parties*
    - No gyms. Government got them closed.
    - A more "adult" plot. I warn you, there will be some violence here and there (even if not too much) and the villains will be a lot more vicious than the ones in the original games.
    - Night watches in the wild. Be careful! At night, when everyone sleeps, a lot of things can happen...
    - Sometimes they come back: Red, Silver, Giovanni, Blaine, Steven Stone...they will be there. Some 30 years later, all right, but you have to take what's offered...and don't complain. =P
    - 12 new pokemon: the starters and four legendaries. I do not need more. u.u
    - There will be at least one legendary that REALLY is legendary...
    - I'm trying to sprite something so, if I succeed or else if I can find a pixel artist, it will have original graphics...and with 32x32 sprites. =]

    And now (only to show something done...but there will soon be more. ;) ) sketches for the hero, the rival and Panico. :)

    my suggestion is, if you don't already have a map in mind, to base the new region off an area that's actually in Japan. Most of the pokemon regions do the same, possible exception being orre since (at least it's climate) is based on Arizona. You will win more smiles from your players that way. ^.^
     
    Very interesting! It looks like you've given a lot of thought to this plot, and it striked me as very intriguing and perhaps a basic for a good fanfiction if this game project falls through. (You do have an ending for it, don't you?) Your character designs are also... decidedly different, but in a good way. (I love the protagonist ^^)

    The main question is, how are you going to do this? I wish I could give you a hand with sprites and all, but my plate is rather full at the moment with Uranium, so the best advice I can give is to advise you to befriend an aspiring spriter and work with them. Also, can you program? Are you making this in RMXP? GM? Coded from scratch? What?

    This thread has my thumbs-up for the plot, but make sure you've got the groundwork for an actual game first. The pretty stuff comes later.
     
    Ops. Yes, I had this feeling I forgot something. XD
    It's done in rmxp, with the overused but still great Poccil's Starter Kit; even if I'm not a whole scripter, I can mod, so there will be a lot of little differences. The story is all there, in my lil' bag: I just have to tell it. =]

    I can ask you something? Not whole help: at best giving a look at the sprites and give some hints. If you're full, I'm obviously not going to ask you a full help.

    Oh, sure, I'm always up for giving some crit and suggestions. PM, VM, or just plain post here, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can (which, admittedly, may not be until Sunday.)

    Have you gotten any mapping and/or scripting done? I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but it's always inspirational to the masses if you post some sort of evidence that you've already started work, as in screenshots or maps. But then, this is the Plot and story space, so screens are by no means required.
     
    I started mapping, but now I'm trying to remake the tileset, so that's on hold...for now. I do not have a lot of time (school is a tyrant :P) but I'm putting all I have into this. So, for now nothing if not the first city and route...but that's going to change pretty soon. :)

    EDIT: just a small candy: Panico's truck. :)
