I personally the Pokemon trading card game, so I decided I would begin work on my own version of the game. But I need your ideas to make this all it can be.

Mind you I will be using C++ to develop this game, meaning it will be 100% original, no RMXP or other Game maker programs will be used. My first goal will be to develop the battle system. The question I have for you is how should the game be played? Should I use standard rules for the battling, New card rules? Old card rules?

I need ideas for the battle system functionality only.

Your not using Rmxp? That's a shame, I know someone who has some code that starts you with your own database for any type of card game.

I really liked the battle system of the Pokemon TCG for GBC, so maybe something similar to that?

What I was thinking is to have it mouse click based.

Say you have the entire field, it will show all the cards on it. you click to play cards ect, and click the attack on the card to use it. That would feel nothing like the original TCG for gameboy.

Hmmm your right! Clicking and moving would probably be a big step forward, what about animations for each attacks, switching, using items, etc. etc. ?

Well, animations are not a necessity. But in theory, The animations can take place in the card picture. Using items would be no harder then dragging a card out of your hand over to the Pokemon you wish to use it on. Same with evolution, you stack cards on top of each other. Switching is just a matter of click and drag. Instead of damage counters, the HP of each card could be risen and lowered as needed.

I agree, I want it to be like the tcg game for game boy on the rpg side. I want to give it a much improved and more realistic battle system.

it will definably not be that, Ill shape the world a lot differntly then the GB TCG did. but enough of that. battle system only as it is the biggest part of the game.

How bout we discus win styles. I will be using all the official game rules. Possibly throw in an element of cheating as well. Like predetermined shuffle to fake cards. Also certain battles you will have to draw prizes from your opponents prizes. Meaning you can actually lose cards. I will also probrobly make a point system for the cards. So that way in certain battles you get to chose the prize cards, as long as they add up to a certain amount of points. This would force you to be willing to sacrifice some of your cards.
