    Hey, it' sme again.

I was playing my newly restarted Emerald, and got to Oldale Town, to the Pokemon Centre... and the woman there said my dear Mudkip was infected with the Pokerus. I read about it before, but never really believed it. So my question is... what the hell is a Pokerus? lol, is it permanent? A good thing?

Pokérus doubles the Effort Values your Mudkip will gain from battle within the duration of the infection. It only lasts a limited time, so make the most out of it because once Mudkip gets over it, he develops an immunity.

Well, I don't think I have to assume that this is quite rare. I've been playing these games for a few years, and this has never happened before.

I made sure to catch some commons, waited 'til it spread, and dropped 'em off in a PC box. As I've heard, that ensures you have a sort of "test tube" of the Pokerus in the storage closet.

If I were to train someone with the Pokerus who is also holding the Macho Brace, would that quadrupal the effort values? Too bad Mudkip got it early on in the game. How long, about, does it last, if anyone knows? Is it based on the internal clock, or steps taken?

Has anyone else here ever come in direct contact with this little oddity?

I'm not sure if the effects will stay forever if you just leave it in the box.

You would get quadruple the amount of EV if you have Pokerus and Macho Brace.

My Pokerus lasted about three days, I hear it varies though.

Pokerus lasts forever. The infectiousness is what will go away after 24 hours. That is why you need to keep an infected Poke in your PC, so that you can continue to spread it to your other Pokes.

That's what I'm hoping for! lol

I've done a bit of research on it, and a few tid bits of information...

    - I've read that it lasts for either 3 days, or 24 hours. Perhaps it varies, but I've heard more say it's 24 hours.
    - You can keep the Pokerus forever by leaving an infected pokemon in the PC.
    - As a lead on from the last, one way to conserve it is to put your team players in the PC before you save a shut off, so it pauses the whole scenario for your main pokemon.
    - I've read you only gain increased EVs for the time infected, but a lot more say the effects are permanent.
    - It appears to be as rare, if not rarer, than a shiny pokemon. I'm not sure the odds for a shiny pokemon (about 1/6000?), but you have, roughly rounding up, about a 1/9000 chance for the Pokerus.

haha, I mean, holy crap. My Mudkip literally got infected on my way up to fight May, before I got to Oldale Town. He was only at level 6. Talk about luck and good timing! And since I rarely carry a 6-pokemon team until near the end of the game, every pokemon I've caught is getting it before I put it in the PC. Some people are saying it spreads after 3-10 battles, but no way. Trust me in saying this thing spreads like wildfire while you're just walking. It spreads like... well, a virus!

First off, simple questions thread. Pokerus is good, it helps the growing process and all of that other stuff. It lasts like three days or something about that. To preserve it put a pokemon with it in the pokemon storage. It can be spread, so you can preserve it.
