Hi all - I'm not sure if this is the right place but I need assistance with Porymap & I have looked everywhere, to no avail. Anything about maps is massively old, and other threads I've commented on with questions have been left unread. Also, big caveat is that I am a huge noob & literally just starting this whole poke-game stuff. Been wanting to create one for ages but have only started learning C, Porymap, Poryscript, etc. for a month or so.

I want to add multiple regions to my pokeemerald build and be able to move between them & see all of them in one big map. I'm not sure if that's possible yet, but we'll get there (any tips or anyone willing to give advice about everything, please do contact me).

The more pressing priority for me right now is that when I open the "Region Map Editor", and add a new Region Map, I don't know what information I need in order to move forward.

Where in the decomp files do I need to connect the:
    • "tileset path"
    • "tilemap path"
    • "palette path"
    • "layout path"

Can anyone help or provide me with a full tutorial more in-depth than the one in the PoryMap manual, which tells me what they are but not actually what to do?!

Porymap allows you to edit region map files that are in the same format that the game uses.

If you are creating a new region map, the files for it obviously don't exist and you'll have to create them yourself. It's probably the easiest to copy/paste the files of the existing region map.

The game doesn't normally have multiple region maps, so you'll also have to program support for multiple maps and make the game to use the map files you created. Reading through the source code of pokefirered might help since that game has multiple region maps.

    Hey there,

Thanks for your message. I think my issue is that I don't really know where to start in terms of copying the files into a new map. Like, I wouldn't even know where to look.

I'll have a look at the source code, though - thanks for the tip.
