Question about Hidden Power

OK, so this move is categorised as a normal-type move, but its type changes depending on the Pokemon. Prior to Gen IV, moves were physical or special based on their type. So if you taught Hidden Power to a Pokemon in Gen 2/3, and it came out to be Psychic type, would it be a physical move (due to being categorised as normal-tpye) or a special move (due to ending up as Psychic-type, which back then was exclusively special)?

It would be special, since it was Hidden Power Psychic.
