Hey everyone new to the forums and I'm here because i need some help. You see i was a hard core Pokemon gamer, loved playing the card game as well as the video game. I guess i grew out of it later on but enough about my ranting i need you're guys help. I wanna buy a Pokemon game for my Dsi, i have no clue of which one to get, i haven't played one in about 5 years. I love the old school Pokemon but i want to get to know the new one as well, so i would like to now which one is best for me to start out again? Is there a version that has most if not all the Pokemon in one game? Thanks in advance.

HG/SS are proabably a must. As remakes of Gold and Silver, they'll feel familiar to you, and halfway through the game (after beating the E4 and getting the national dex), opponent trainers will start using newer-generation pokemon and with a little knowledge (aka, using an online reference), you can find some for yourself via the Safari Zone, headbutting trees, the bug-catching contest, and occasional swarms.

This is pretty much covering what I would say more or less. That said, please use the HG/SS Help Thread for any more questions.
