    Who do you think is better Gary or Paul?

    Just when it comes to battling


    umm I think that Paul will win since I like his collection of Pokemon though more then Gary

    Shigeru can defeat shinji no prob. He is one of the best pokemon trainers around.
     
    True, Shigeru was a well known Pokemon trainer and his Pokemon were terribly powerful. However, he's been out of training for a while. Shinji has been training through four regions and has more experience than Shigeru.
     
    With Gary quitting training now, I don't think he'd do too well against Paul's pokemon..

    Yeah, you may be right about that, but we don't know for sure what has shigeru been up to?. For all we know he could be training and doing research at the same time. It would be awesome if we could see shigeru and shinji battle it out.
     
    Definitely Paul for me - imo he's exactly what the show needed, and is probably the character I'm interested in most this season. He's a total prick to Ash and his pokemon, and you can't help but wonder why he treats the pokemon the way he does, so you're always waiting for him to come back so you can find out more about him. He shows up a lot more than Gary did, and does a lot of other things besides battling and teasing Ash (Roark's Gym, Cynthia ep, recent Tag-Battle eps), which I think is really great. I can't wait for him to show up again, and to see what he's like by the end of DP.

    Don't get me wrong, I still like Gary a lot (well, after his comeback at the end of AG, I didn't really care for him too much while he was actually on the show), but when I compare him to Paul, he isn't all that interesting to me, besides his whole Pokemon-Researcher-thing and the backstory with Ash. So yeah - Paul wins for me.
     
    In an actual skill battle, Gary would beat Shinji down.

    Because Shinji hasn't been 'raising' Pokemon nearly as long.
    I'm still trying to figure out how in the world his little level 7-ish Pokemon could beat
    Ash's Pikachu, whose close to 100 by now. If not already there.

    Unless he started over with Sinnoh Pokemon, so their levels were more matched.

    Paul's been training for the same amount of time that Gary and Ash have. So their Pokemon should be roughly similar in ways of raw power. Here's how I picture the match up.

    Blastoise vs. Torterra: I know how powerful Blastoise is, but with the type advantage and how long Blastoise has been out of action, I imagine Torterra takes this.

    Weavile vs. Umbreon: If Paul used Weavile...well I'm not sure how long Weavile has been training with Paul or how powerful it is, so I'd label it a tie, seeing how long it lasted against Garchomp.

    Ursaring vs. Dodrio: Dodrio simply has more experience, so I'd give this match to it.

    Electabuzz vs. Electivire: Again, I'd imagine that Electivire is a good bit stronger just because it's already evolved.

    Then again, the anime is unpredictable.

    I thought I remembered hearing something about how Shinji was a newer trainer, the same as Hikari..?

    Thats why I found it strange, or didn't see that he could actually win against Gary, if they battled.
     
    Gary! or i guess you could call him... Blue! But now you have to cxall him "Proffessor Gary"... I always liked to call him GarGar xD its funny! I cant really rember any of his battles.... I just faintly remebr that Ash likes kicking his butt but Gary defeated him a few times... dont know much about Paul... havnt even heard of him yet XD but gary all the way no matter what! Unless its Team Rocket... but their battle style sucks.... eh oh well... id vote for them becuase of the laughs xD

    I believe it was in DP040 that Paul's past was revealed. He does have a Torterra after all. Not many beginners do. :3
