Rock smash broken

Hello all, newcomer to ROM hacking here.

I've been attempting to change the dialogue in Pokemon Sapphire as a first project, and to this end downloaded a program called "Advance Text". For the most part I seemed to be able to modify dialogue boxes without much issue, but I may have run into problems when modifying the names of moves and items - in particular, I have occasionally resorted to the use of re-pointing in order to fit extra letters or words in.
No bugs had manifested themselves until I tested rock smash. When the player approaches a rock and uses rock smash, the animation plays and the sound of the rock smashing is audible, but the rock itself remains. Not deterred, I continued with the re-write, and have since noticed that some NPCs (excluding all trainers, major story characters etc.) no longer present a dialogue box when spoken to.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Advance Text is old and outdated these days, sometimes repointing data can mess up parts of your rom. I recommend trying to look at XSE and Advancemap to edit dialogue. You should also hack Ruby or Emerald since Sapphire isn't supported by most of the hack tools.
