Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, or good night. I'm planning on starting a new YouTube channel at some point in the next few months dedicated to doing Professor Oak's Challenges on Rom Hacks. As such, I'm looking for Rom hack suggestions. Before I go into what I'm looking for, let me explain the challenge:
A professor Oak's challenge is, essentially, a challenge where a player must fill their Pokedex up as much as possible before each gym badge. For example, in Pokemon Red and Blue, you'd need to fully evolve your starter, a Pidgey, Ratatta, etc before facing Brock. I take these one step further and build a living dex, including trading over pokemon that are version exclusives. This is not normally part of the challenge, but it gives me a bit of extra fun.
So what I'm looking for are rom hacks that are at least generation 3, so I can have the visual of a box for the living dex. Being as it's a living dex, I would like the ability to obtain at least one copy of each Pokemon, though this is not strictly necessary, such as in games where you get an un-breedable one-of, but having the ability for a living dex would be much appreciated. I'd also like a game that has at least decent documentation on what is available, especially in the wild, and if the rom contains new evolutions or completely original Pokemon, some kind of documentation on the evolution. Again, this isn't strictly necessary, but it would be helpful. I'm looking for a mix of games that have completely vanilla pokemon, regional variants, fakemons, or even total conversions of other franchises. Most importantly, I'm looking for rom hacks that are going to be fun to grind in.
Currently on my radar are the following:
Pokeduel
Glazed
Dark Rising
Emerald Kaizo
Radical Red
DBZ Team Training
Fire Red Omega
Prism
Renegade Platinum
Unbound
Gaia
Quetzal
So, are there any games that anyone can recommend adding to this list? Thank you for your time.
Also I really hope this was the right section to post this.
