If you had to choose one thing about RSE to change, what would it be? I know, personally, I detested the way that feebas was put into the game. I've had to work harder for that stupid fish than any legendary I know of. Even the running legends were not that bad since you could corner them. How about you? What ONE THING would you chance?

The sprite animations in emerald! They are nothing as compared to the ones in crystal. I would have made them like those of crystal. I could have also changed how the region was designed as I think that hoenn was probably the worst designed regions of all.

I'd change the text and the character designs.
The text was just ugly and the chacters had terrible designs.

I agree with Crusher on the region thing. Bad region, Hoenn. And yeah, the crystal animations are pretty cute.

Personally, I believe that Emerald and the other Hoenn games had TOO many of those random people who spout out useless information that you already knew.
(ex. Girl: "You can use SURF to travel across water.")

Day and night feature is definitely something that I was sad to see go, they should have never gotten rid of it. No surprise it suddenly came back in the 4th gen. I agree with the region map, could have used a lot of work and maybe some more interesting locations.

As for characters, I got sick of seeing the same character design spouting the same waste of text to you. A little more variety than Flower Girls and Fighters would have been nice.

One thing I'd never change though is Steven Stone.

They took out the day and night feature because, in Gold and Silver, the real time clock in the game made the battery expire really fast. Most of them did so in as little as 7 years. They didn't want to abuse it too much because if the battery dries out in the GBA games, you'll just get the berry glitch, and at least you won't get stuck in twilight. xD

It came back in Generation IV because the DS has its own internal clock.

I was not that annoyed by Feebas. I took my time to fish at every tile until I found a Feebas and spread out my Feebas search over days so it didn't get too frustrating. It's a little nice to have a tiny challenge every now and then. I also agree that the time of day would have been nice, but it was not really necessary.

I felt that all the diving was very tedious and took a lot of time. There were many places to dive, and I thought that it was silly to have to have a Relicanth and Wailord in my team to activate the Regis. I did not enjoy surfing all over the place especially with the slow speed of surf and having to be constantly confronted by Tentacool and other water type pokemon. I'd rather bike quickly, and I don't remember previous generations having such a heavy focus on traveling by water. I guess that means that I was rooting for Team Magma. Overall, the game play was good. It mostly resembled other generations with new moves and new towns but with the same premise of trying to defeat the Elite 4.

I liked the addition of contests and pokeblocks. It added a different element to the pokemon world so that it wasn't just a game about battling and beating the pokemon league. The 2 on 2 battles were also interesting because it allowed new strategies so that pokemon could support each other on the same team. Overall, I was satisfied with the RSE generation, but pokemon games keep improving as with D/P.

I'd at least put some sort of hint into the game as the Rayquaza's location... I wouldn't have known about the Sky Pillar, had I not been casually surfing past the opening and possessed with an iron will to see what was at the top...

Oh, and I'd have the Mossdeep Space Center actually do something cool, instead of just telling you how many rockets they'd fired.

I think the amount of water is there because of the story. They way that water and land is just about evenly split, reflects on the fued between Kyogre and Groudon.

Dont forget emerald is on a different system, newer technology. It was easier to make animations because if you noticed only a portion of the pokemon's body moves. In emerald the entire pokemon's body move. It was just a testout (I guess for DP). At least we got animations in the 3rd gen. And I love hoenn, the only thing that bugged me was feebas.
