The (Winter) Scenario Design Contest
Welcome to the Scenario Design Contest! Allow me to set the set the scenario for you:The next generation Pokémon game is being developed and the developers really want to include a wintry area. But for some reason they just cannot think of what to do! So, they have decided to turn to the fans for help. They want their fans to submit ideas for small events that could fit into this new wintry area. It could be anything, as long as you provide the Who, What, Where and Why of the event.
The Criteria
What: This is where you describe just what is going to happen. Provide a general sequence of events.Where: This is where you describe the location(s) of the event. Does it take place in a frozen forest? A cave? Santa's workshop?
Who: This is where you describe some key characters. Are there other people involved in the event. Maybe the local Gym Leader? Santa himself?
Why: This is where you justify and/or explain your event. Try and explain how it could either a) fit into a larger story or b) be a suitable sidequest. Explain why the player would bother getting involved.
Submission and Judging
If you're interested in participating, you don't need to sign up for the event. Just drop your submission here before the end of the 25 Days. Although letting me know you'll be submitting something never hurts. ;)A submission does not need to be overly complex or in-depth! Bigger does not necessarily mean better. The only things you need to submit are written descriptions of the four criteria above. However, supplementing your entry with art and further creative writing is highly encouraged. Basically, do as much (or as little) as you want!
Entries will be judged based on 1) creativity 2) their viability for the game 3) how well they stick to the theme of "winter" and 4) how well they detail the criteria. All the judging will be done by myself, although I may try to recruit another judge depending on the number of submissions.
Example Submission
Spoiler:
What: Taking place in the wintery city Snowcrest Town, this event begins when the first arrives in town. Talking to a local they will find out that while the town is used to getting lots of snow, they've had a nonstop blizzard for the past two weeks now. Further discussion with other locals reveals that whatever it is that is causing the problem is likely in Snowcrest Woods north of town. If the player tries to enter Snowcrest Woods, they will be stopped by a group masked men. They player can try to talk their way in, but ultimately will have to defeat the men in a Pokemon battle before they can enter the woods. Inside the woods the snow is even fiercer, and the player will have to deal with more of the masked men as they make their way to the center. Upon arriving the player will discover that the leader of the masked men and a few scientists have been experimenting on an Abomasnow, forcing it to Mega Evolve repeatedly so that they can study the effects Mega Evolution has on a Pokemon. Battling the scientists and leader before ultimately battling the distressed Abomasnow will resolve the situation and clear up the blizzard.
Where: There are two main locations (as referenced above) in this quest: Snowcrest Town and Snowcrest Woods. Snowcrest Town is a mid-sized town located in a mountain valley. A snowy town, attractions include a Fighting type Gym and a café famous for its hot chocolate (a special item similar in effect to a Castelia Cone). A lift on the east side of town carries people up the mountain to a ski resort (which is shut down until the blizzard has stopped). Snowcrest Woods is a forest to the north-east of town on the side of the mountain. A popular destination for trainers, it is bypassed by the lift for those that do not wish to traverse it. Wild Pokemon present in the woods include Snover, Snorunt and Hoothoot. There are even rumors of a special stone that allows Eevee to evolve into Glaceon within the woods.
Who: The introduction of the event does not rely on special characters, as one of a few random NPCs in Snowcrest Town can inform the player of the ongoing troubles caused by the blizzard. The masked men in the forest, for now going by the temporary name of Team Enigma, are the main threat in this quest. Mostly unnamed during the initial battles, meeting with one of their admins in the woods will reveal a bit more about what the organization is.
Why: Although it may seemingly start as a side-quest (given the random nature of how the player gets involved), this event could quickly become an important introduction for members of the evil gang in the game and/or an introduction of the concept of Mega Evolution to the player. Because the mountain lift will be shut down due to the blizzard, it also becomes an important event in the main story progression as well.
