Selecting Pokemon

Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but I was curious: In the games, why is it that when you enter a random battle, not including trainer/gym trainer battles, why is it that you aren't allowed to select which pokemon to send out into battle? As opposed to it automatically sending out whatever pokemon is designated to position one in your team.. that always bugged me, so I was curious if there was a particular reason why we wouldn't be able to do that

I would actually get pretty annoyed by that. I mean yeah it could be pretty useful, but for every wild encounter you'd have to go through a selection menu and choose a Pokemon. If there was an option to run or choose a Pokemon that'd be pretty cool.

The games probably just do this for convenience, because chances are that the first Pokemon in your party is the one you were training anyway (although this does make it tough when training multiple Pokemon at a time).

It would actually be an interesting concept if they added this to games in the future, though. Just like you have the option to choose 'Shift' or 'Set' for trainer battles, the same thing could be applied for wild battles (Shift would give you the option of sending in one of your Pokemon/running, Set would automatically send out your first Pokemon). Wild double battles would also benefit from this, as you could send out a combination of two Pokemon rather than the first two on your team.
