This is just my two cents. No one needs to agree with me, and I don't expect anyone to.

Honestly? I absolutely hate Ash. I always have. I always found him insufferable and annoying. Plus, after 20 years, he's just tiresome and boring. I really hope they will retire this character and come up with something new. I also never liked all of the anime's "filler" storylines.

IMHO the main anime is absolutely atrocious compared to Pokemon Origins - now that was an awesome anime. The only downer is that it was so short. If they ever do a series reboot, I hope it will be in the same vein as Origins. Y'know, with the actual characters and actual plotlines from the actual games.

It's wishful thinking, but I think a series, or even just a miniseries centered around any one of the female player characters from the games would be very refreshing. Girls can be heroes and chosen ones, too.

As much as I want to see Ash replaced with a new main characters for the regular-series Pokémon anime, realistically, it won't happen anytime soon. Even if the rumored reboot based on the 20th movie does happen, Ash and Pikachu will still be the main fixtures of the show.

I can only imagine how much different things would be, though, if Ash had been replaced for Johto or Hoenn with the main male player character for the newly-featured region each generation.
