Well, it's about time I did this.

I have been playing pokemon for about 8 years and NEVER have I found a shiny pokemon(except for the red gyarados) and I want to know if anyone out there has some advice that they can give me for finding a shiny. THANKS!

P.S.-Sorry if this is the wrong board.

Chaining. There are like, over 9000 guides on the net about it. It's pretty much the only way to really hunt for shinies.

Myself, I've never gotten a shiny, but my friend hatched a Shiny Magby once. I think he also has a shiny Lombre from Sapphire, but I can't be sure.

Well, shiny pokemon appear randomly, yes, randomly, there's no way to highten your possibilities on finding a shiny, to be exact there is 1 in 8192 probability rate to find a shiny.

On Metal generation you could get shiny pokemon by breeding a shiny PKMN with a non-shiny one, making the probabilities 1/64, but that feature was removed from later generations making an egg hold a shiny poke at the same rate as appearing in the wild.

Want and advice? Keep trying! Go to an area where a pokemon you want in it's shiny version is located, and keep walking on the grass etc. until you find one, I would sugest a Smeargle with Thunder Wave and False Swipe, and of course have a full stock of pokeballs, you never know when a shiny will appear!

I got a shiny Wingull after 20 hours of playing! It's tottaly random!

Well just to be clear, I know all of the info about shinies and their appearance rates.

I guess I'll go and try to find a shiny shinx right now :).

Dude? I just said Chaining, which kinda just debunks your entire post.

EDIT: Here's PC's bonafide guide to chaining: https://www.pkmncommunity.com/showpost.php?p=2682066&postcount=4
    And here's a video on chaining: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkeKPlBYYbs

O, so it's on the fourth gen!

*puts a "Dummy" sign on himslef* well, I know nothing 'bout DP so yeah, my post is about 3rd gen...

Well, since it was on "Pokemon general" I had no clue on which game was he talking about and my post was just four minutes after yours so I didn't saw it...

I never really "look" for shinies. they just appear for me. I traded off most of mine. Actually; all of mine. I only have a shiny Deoxys now. Hah(: My advice is to just look for it in the area you would find the pokemon you want in a shinny form. But if you don't want to spend hours walking through grass. I wouldn't sweat it. they just pop up. It's funner to find something when it's unexpected anyway. Good luck!
