hey everyone! I have played pokemon all my life and have played every game out there. I recently got my hands on an abandoned SP Gameboy system and a Fire Red game. I want to complete the game completely and especially start hunting for shiny pokemon. I just need some help getting started, ive seen people with shiny charts to show what shiny pokemon look like and multiple systems. Just wondering how I can get my hands on stuff like that, Id really appreciate the responses. Im Deven from Pittsburgh and im 19!

In Gen III stuff like the Shiny Charm, Pokeradar and breeding Pokemon of two different nationalities didn't exist yet, so the only real way to get one is through sheer luck. You can encounter tens of thousands of Pokemon and not get anything. I've found a few but I just got lucky when I did.

Only in Gen IV and later did stuff meant to increase the odds of finding a shiny Pokemon come into being. If shinies are what you're after I'd get one of the later games. If you're ok with Firered not having those things though then by all means go for it.

It's pretty hard. There are no ways to get shinies faster. If you save your game, before encountering an event pokemon(legendary, starter, etc),you can keep restarting until you get a shiny. That's how I got my shiny Ho-oh,Lugia(I cheated to get to Navel Rock) and Mewtwo. The three of them are legit shinies. But it takes forever to get a shiny.

I've spending almost 10 years on Shiny Hunting on Pokémon Fire Red / Leaf Green. And if you want to find Shiny fastly, you have to find something else. I'm not here to say "1/8192" is better but i love the sprites so much that for me, it deals with the waiting.

You can soft reset all the fix excepted trades pokemon (you can have them with eggs only, doing them at the moment)

See if you're really enough patient in order to hunt like this (i wouldn't with only one game, I hunt with 3 or 4 games + but at least 3) but good luck anyway, i love to see people willing to hunt on 3G games o/

Anything in particular you want to do with them? Obviously, as said, you could soft reset on stationary Pokémon if they're not shiny, and then try to catch them, if you really want. There are some methods proposed to get shinies more often, but some of them might require manipulating battery aspects and so on, which might be a bit unnecessary. Other than that, as there is little in-game help on this, you might take some time to find one, but hopefully it's particularly useful then.
