Should they have side stories in Core Series Pokémon games?

Do you think they should make side stories in Pokémon games where you play as one of the other main characters in the game, such as Gary Oak? It would be similar to the Special Episodes in Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky.

I think it would be a good idea to have side stories in the games.

I would love to see a flash back style mini quest based on the lore of legendary pokemon or something of that sort. Possibly they could do a Legendary encounter where the pokemon would project a memory of another character doing something alongside of the Legendary and you get to experience what that person did or was supposed to do. Easy enough to pull off since it's just a flash back.

I would love this, we could have like 'episodes' where we play as different protagonists/antagonists from the region we're currently in or maybe different regions. I suppose it would probably have to be a post-game thing but I would love to see this! Also, a Pokemon Ranger side story would be amazing...
