    I have a really quick suggestion, a Philosophical/Theoretical Discussions forum. Older people could talk about some scientific theories and talk about the Philosophies they grew up with/learned.

    That was the basic principle of the old T-Dome (as well as general debates), but everyone misused it and started flaming and disrespecting other people's beliefs and such, so we got rid of it. From the looks of things, it won't be coming back any time soon, either.

    Or you can just make that Forum with scricter rules.
    People would still break the rules, if you want to talk about serious things, by all means go ahead...Just don't confuse debate and flaming like so many people did before. That's the main reason why there isn't going to be any T-Dome style forum again.

    So we aren't going to have a debate forum, because you are afraid of having flame-wars then?
    Well, SPPf has one and they can handle it.

    No, not because we can't handle, but because a lot of members have proved that they can't handle it.

    Let me ask something - exactly how many people were warned and/or banned for flaming in the T-Dome alone?

    SPPf != PC.
    You should know that. >>;
    And we discuss current affairs in OC, but we don't have a debate forum. It was tried and tried [the T-dome] but like Jorge said, it's not we can't handle it, it's people like *points at the people who ruined it for everyone else*

    And I'll ask again, how many of those people were warned and/or banned for flaming in the T-Dome alone?

    There was that infamous incident with Lion Heart, remember Ty? The first T-Dome was also ridden with sex-crazed topics which people took too far out of hand (even though I started the biggest ones of the lot -_-) In the religious topics, many people did not respect the opinions and beliefs of others and so flamed them. Even in the current affairs topics and general debates, people just saw it as an opportunity to flame continuously as they thought thy wouldn't get banned.

    In truth, I know that a hell of a lot of people were warned for their actions in the T-Dome, staff included, but very few were banned. That's not the point though. It's not coming back, and that is final.

    Well, what is the purose of having mods again?
    Isn't it for avoiding and deleting inappropriate posts?
    This would also work in a debate forum...

    Mods are picked for their area of expertise, that wouldn't work well in another T-Dome style forum. It's more trouble than it's worth and a lot of members already proved that they can't handle it, so it isn't going to happen. If you want current affairs, go to OC.

    I haven't been around in PC for long and I would so much want a forum for the "serious" discussions, but I've seen it happen to all the forums I've been in, contanious flame wars. Discussions that turn into debates, then into flame wars and offending someone on personal level. There are people who just long for a reason to flame someone and they are not afraid to use every chance they get. No, not everyone is like that and it's the mods' job to "supervise" the stuff, but frankly, there a lot of people who like to flame, for some absurd reason that is unknown to me.

    Moderators can't always be there, when you need them, and with a place for serious discussions turning into multiply flame wars filling mods' hands with work. End result, lots of petty arguments, someone might get hurt on personal level and a lot of warnings and possibly bannings.

    I've seen this happen in a forum that I moderate. Well, I don't moderate that particular sub-forum that held the discussions, but there were some good discussions about religion and the current Pope and George W. Bush and that was fine. I was away for few days and when I came back, the moderator forums were filled with topics of banning or giving a warning to somebody. People were permanent and temprary banned, multiply warnings were given to several members. And that wasn't the top, some of the moderators revolted, as they thought it was unfair to lock these topics, and as a result, they resigned.

    I'd like to see a test run of month or something, sometimes these things work, but mostly not ;)

    You mean, there isn't ANY member which would be able to handle such a forum on PC (out of ~9000 members)?
    If you are so afraid of flame wars, why don't you change the settings so the mod(s) has to view a thread before other can see it and approves/disapproves it then.
    And flame wars can happen in EVERY forum, not only a debate one.

    To be honest, yes and no. Yes because there are some extremely mature people on ths board who you can actually have a *gasp* intelligent discussion with. But no in the sense that those small shining lights of maturity and intelligence are outnumbered say 50 to 1 by n00bs, spammers, spmbots, flamers and generally people who can't accept anyone else's opinion bar their own, or just don't want to go.

    Exactly my point. It's a pity that people who want to have decent and mature discussion can't -- including me -- because the majority of the people are not mature enough.

    Can't you make the forum like the Adult Forum? You have to get permission from an admin to view and discuss things there? I would like to have such a forum since I'm the leader of my schools debate team :P
