Smeargle, what's so great about him?

Everyone is talking about how Smeargle sketches.

So my two questions are, what is the point of sketch and what do you do to use it.

And how do you get sketch on a ditto?

Most people use Sketch to breed egg moves in the Ground category. Sketch is learned every 10 levels by Smeargle only.

How do you use it to breed?

Like how do you get the moves on him?

In the previous generations I think it went like this. Your opponent strikes first, you use sketch, you PERMANENTLY learn the move they used. Why is Smeargle that awesome?

    1) Breeding as stated above.
    2) Cheap competitive Smeagle.

Smeargle @ Berry that boosts Speed when HP 1/3 (Lichy Berry?)
    *insert EVs*
    - Endure (activate Berry for speed boost, making sure you hit anything not real fast with spore)
    - Spore (100% acc. sleep)
    - Lock-On (set-up for OHKO)
    - Sheer Cold (OHKO)

But accept for these things Smeargle isn't that good. He can learn basicly any movesets but his stats are too low to be put to good use.

That would be great if OHKO was allowed.

Isn't it allowed in the 4th gen Wifi battling? If it isn't that really makes Smeargle a bit more useless :D

What I like about the third and fourth generation is that you don't need to Sketch an opponent's move anymore thanks to double battles. You can sketch the last move that your partner uses during a double battle. Obviously, if you are going to use sketch for breeding moves you better use a male Smeargle to do this. Females Smeargle are pretty much useless.

Like everyone else has said, you can use him to be able to breed certain moves in the ground group. I always thought Smeargle was useless. =(
