I recently bought Soulsilver and I'm pleased with it. It was a bit of a nostalgic hallway for me, because Silver was my first game. I had remembered I got a Pidgey and trained it and that's all I trained, and then when I got to the Steel Gym and... things didn't go to well. This time I'm actually smart. I don't have time to do much right now. So it's sort of simple. Right now I'm in the Lighthouse.

    My team by that time was;

    Quilava Lv28
    Kadabra Lv25
    Pidgeotto Lv20

Quilava was the one I used the most, with Kadabra close behind and Pidgeotto was pretty bad at that point. Shortly after the Steel gym Kadabra and Quilava evolved. Remember that this was my first FULL play through a pokemon game, the others I sorta just battled pokemon. Maybe a bit more training would be good for you. Or you could wait for someone way more experienced to answer this, your choice.

It's an ingame team, so nearly anything goes. However, hoothoot is a pretty weak pokemon, and I strongly recommend putting in a fire type, which one is up to you. I suggest also replacing Sudowoodo with say, Tyranitar, or Rhydon, and teaching it Earthquake. A water pokemon is also a good idea, maybe in place of Arbok.

I agree with the post above.
Although I would have to say, I would replace Sudowoodo with Golem and Arbox with Alakazam.
I know they are both trade evos but nevertheless, Geodude and its evo line own the first half of the game basically and Abras evo line owns the second half. Imo that is.
For a fire type, I really do not know. You have SS not HG. Arcanine is a way better choice than Ninetales.
Maybe get someone to trade a Growlithe to you to train.
Also, Lapras, one of the better water types you could add to your team, can be found in Union cave of a friday on the basement floor, if you have beaten Morty you can get one, you need surf to be able to get to it.
It also learns Ice Beam around Lv.33ish. That will pretty much decimate Clair for the 8th badge, and it will destroy Lance once you get through the Elite 4. ;)

Alright. Here's my updated team. I found a Larvitar to replace the Sudowoodo (It's like it was proving itself horrible to be on my team)

My pokemon are generally around Lv. 30-34 and I have one more badge in Johto to go (Clair's) Here's my team...

    Bayleef (one level from evolution)
    Ampharos
Larvitar (low leveled needs training Where do i get exp. share!)
    Arbok
    Staryu
    Noctowl

I have to admit, if I'm under leveled and I've gotten this far it must be a generally good team I suppose :P

I have noticed my Pokemon are somewhat under leveled but I am fighting just about every trainer I can. Hopefully the trainers from Mahogany town to the one town will yield me more xp, but I'm thinking not enough.

Where are some good ways to get it?

You get the exp. share after catching or killing the red gyrados, getting the red shard, and trading it to mr. pokemon for the exp. share. a great place to grind if you're up for it is that little patch of grass just below the town with the safari zone. low levels that give lots and lots of experience.

    Awesome, thanks for the help.
I did manage to go through there a bit and the Tauros did get me quite a bit (600+)

Those are a couple of nice changes.
Level grinding can be a real pain sometimes, you just have to discover new areas to train in.
The exp share can help for a bit, but your higher level pokemon suffer a little bit, they already gain levels slower than the others as it is, without cutting the exp they would get normally without the share item.

There is another very tedious way to go up a few levels. Put them in the daycare and just walk backwards and forwards through goldenrod for a few hours at a time. Take the pokemon out of daycare every so often though to rearrange the lineup for the attacks they know, just so they don't forget something you want them to know for future battling.
Its long, annoying and frustrating, but then so is level grinding any other way. What have you got to lose?

    ._.

how did you get so far with such low-leveled pokemon? I mean, I went with six and I had at least high 30's by the time I was at Clair. I did no grinding whatsoever, too. Just fought all the trainers once. Most of your team are average levellers; not needing that much EXP, so I don't see...

    ._.

Anyway, just get some tanky tactics and you'll beast anything. I beat the Elite Four with a level 44 Gyarados and Red with a 60-70 team.

Here's my updated Team. I tried doing a bit more training but it took 15 minutes for 2 levels. I just beat Clair, by the way.

    Skarmory Lv. 30
    Spikes
    Roar
    Fly
    Air Cutter

    Ampharos Lv. 34
    Thunderpunch
    Thunder Wave
    Strength
    Flash

    Meganium Lv. 34
    Petal Dance
    Frenzy Plant
    Reflect
    Iron Tail

    Arbok Lv. 32
    Payback
    Stockpile
    Swallow
    Crunch
(i'm in need of a good poison move. Gunk shot!!)

    Staryu Lv. 32
    Surf
    Swift
    Recover
    Whirlpool
(I need a water stone, where to get?)

    Pupitar Lv. 30
    Dark Pulse
    Sandstorm
    Thrash
    Rock Slide

Skarmory may seem familiar, it sets up spikes because CPUs... well they're idiots. It really helped with Clair. Funny because I beat Clair with the level 28 Skarmory.

It may be apparent, but there's a lot of grinding I need to do. I pretty much have access to all of Johto now so anywhere good to train is nice.

Victory Road is the best place to train at the moment, I guess. To be honest, you don't really need levels, you just need tactics. Get through to Victory Road and your whole team should be 35~. Then, do a bit of grinding on the level 3x Pokemon and you should be fine. Spikes is really useful if you can't deal tonnes of damage. Set up three layers and you should be able to beat anyone if you can get some more Roaring and Whirlwinding through your other team members.

'Nyway, I caught Lugia, (in about 8 balls)

It's been added to my team.

Skarmory has been proven useful. I just need to be able to set up more spikes! Updated Team: (sorta baddd) I actually did try to sweep the elite four... but before Lance I ran out of Hyper potions so I sort of died out.

    Ampharos: Lv. 37
    - Discharge
    - Strength
    - Thunder Wave
    - Focus Punch

    Starmie. Lv. 34
    - Surf
    - Waterfall (temporary)
    - Recover
    - Whirlpool

    Skarmory Lv. 31
    - Spikes
    - Fly
    - Roar
    - Attract

    Pupitar Lv. 32
    - Dark Pulse
    - Sandstorm
    - Rock Slide
    - Thrash

    Lugia Lv. 49
    - Extrasensory
    - Aeroblast
    - Surf
    - Dragon Pulse

    Meganium Lv. 37
    - Petal Dance
    - Frenzy Plant
    - Reflect
    - Iron Tail

My main concern is Lance's Blizzard.

L> Ice Beam on Starmie. :D That should work wonders on Lance's ridic. slow team.

And don't waste money on Hyper Potions. Just spam Revives + Lemonades. It works wonders.

I managed to beat the League. Now I'm just roaming Kanto and the Safari Zone. I don't know where have the TMs are, Maybe I'll go find a bunch later. 'Nyway, here's my team. I haven't touched any Kanto gyms yet.

    Skarmory @Wacan Berry (Lv. 39)
    ~ Spikes
    ~ Fly
    ~ Roar
    ~ Air Slash

Skarmory is my lead. It's sort of a nub version in that online stuff but its alright. If it can set up spikes it can work wonders. I don't know what other moves to put that are easily accessible in the in-game metagame.

    Pupitar @Rindo Berry (Lv. 36)
    ~ Dark Pulse
    ~ Sandstorm
    ~ Thrash
    ~ Rock Slide

Notes: I don't know why... but its a pain in the ass to train. That's why its such a low level. Needless to say, it does have the best attack stat on the team. After Skarmory has done her job, he switches in and sets up a sandstorm.

    Meganium @Rose Incense (Lv. 41)
    ~ Petal Dance
    ~ Frenzy Plant
    ~ Reflect
    ~ Light Screen

Notes: Meganium sets up walls whenever it can. It switches it on water/electric types that Pupitar and Starmie face and set up wall. Petal Dance and Frenzy Plant are powerful, but somewhat unreliable moves. Reflect/Light Screen usually makes up for the missed turn on Frenzy Plant, but I usually switch in something it can't take care of quickly.

    Ampharos @Chilan Berry (Lv. 42)
    ~ Signal Beam
    ~ Thunder Wave
    ~ Discharge
    ~ Strength

Notes: (i need to get rid of strength!) Ampharos is a general attacker. Signal Beam deals with Psychic/Dark/Grass types and Discharge corrupts the Water/Flying types. Strength is... a dumb move.

    Wobbuffet @Colbur Berry (Lv. 41)
    ~ Counter
    ~ Mirror Coat
    ~ Safeguard
    ~ Destiny Bond

Notes: Lol. Does it need an explanation?

    Starmie @Kasib Berry (Lv. 42)
    ~ Surf
    ~ Psychic
    ~ Recover
    ~ Whirlpool

Notes: Starmie has a kickass Sp. Atk stat so it can really sweep. Mixed with the excellent speed it does alot of damage. There is no need for Rapid spin because no CPUs tend to use Stealth Rock/Spikes/Toxic Spikes.
