Story for Song of Rhapsody, your thoughts?

this will be easier to understand with the map i made. haven't added the dungeons/caves/etc yet.
sorry, i can't post links to other sites yet. so bear with me, I'll add it when i can.

Okay first, Violet and the male rival are interchangeable. They'll switch depending on gender.
-
Second, I don't have an idea for the water type starter yet
-
third, i probably WILL NOT have Florence reappear at the end. It will probably be either the police or team rocket.
-
fourth, it seems like it would be possible to add in a few video type things, just the camera panning over a still pixel art or two,
-
4.5, i took a programming class, and learned that without a command to wait for user input, it will just keep going. There was also a wait command. I'm fairly certain something this useful would be kept with more advanced programming languages.
-
fifth, it seems like it would be possible to have some hidden code keeping track of answers to various questions or tasks, like in pokemon mystery dungeon.
-
sixth, i want to make it so you only get one legendary pokemon. out of like eight.
-
seventh, i want to make this a musical. Just because there isn't a pokemon musical game yet.
--

i want your opinions on my story and ideas, if you would. Sorry for the giant wall of text. You can tell even without programming, I've been working hard.

as of yet, all i can find are frlg tilesets. I didn't rip these, they're from spriters-resource
I'll redo any maps i've sprited out in RSE tiles before actually coding the maps into the game, but here's what the first town will look like.

[PokeCommunity.com] Story for Song of Rhapsody, your thoughts?

----story----
--Beginning--

Cornet starts out singing in her room, fingering an odd necklace. She then is sent off to get her first Pokémon, a choice between Faylet (grass/bug), Flaykit (fire/normal), and _____.

Violet then gets her first Pokémon, the one with a type advantage to Cornet's choice.

Later, the male rival appears with the remaining Pokémon. He's cocky, and picks on her for a bit, then leaves. No battle yet.

--first gym--

Cornet leaves for Andante to the northwest, and then moves on to the first gym in Fuocoso. It's a fire type gym.

After the gym she runs into the male rival again, and again he provokes her, before accepting her challenge to battle. Win or lose, she moves on.

--second gym--

After the first gym, Cornet goes on to the second gym, in Maestoso. She has to go on to the city of Arpeggio with Lucian, the second gym leader, to rescue his co-gym leader and lover Ella from team rocket.

There she meets Ruby, who helps her to rescue Ella. She isn't found out by the other rockets, and it's thought that Lucian and Cornet alone rescued Ella. They are then met, in passing, by Rallentando.

Lucian and Ella return to Maestoso. Cornet is free to explore the town of Arpeggio, but can't challenge the gym leader or move past it. Cornet returns to Maestoso, the second gym. She talks to Lucian and Ella, befriending them and then challenging them for the badge.
--third gym--

On the way to Arpeggio, Cornet meets Violet, who insults her, and tells her she should just give up. You are given the chance to react to this, but however you react, a battle ensues. You must win to continue.

Then Cornet returns north to Arpeggio and challenges the gym there.

--fourth gym--

Cornet then moves around the valley to Cantando, where a singing contest takes place. Answers up to this point determine the song she sings, and whether she wins or loses to Violet. A red-haired person with a black hat is seen in the crowd. While it's not said outright, it's implied that it's Ruby.

Rallentando is also there. Win or lose, he introduces himself and talks to Cornet for a while. He is kind to her, and understanding of her situation. Later, he moves on, leaving Cornet to the gym.

--Fifth gym--

Cornet moves to the fifth gym in Tenuto, only to learn it's closed thanks to team rocket. After teaming up with Rallentando to get to the heart of the operation, they convince Ruby to turn on team rocket, and she helps them both win and drive the rockets out of the city.

The gym leader steps down, and Ruby is going to be arrested, but Rallentando prevents it and instead appoints her the new gym leader. The male rival is there, and acknowledges Cornet's capabilities as a trainer, somewhat.

--sixth gym--

Cornet then moves on to Piumosso, where life is a party all the time. She challenges the gym leader, Twinkle, and her team, before moving on. She meets with both Violet and the male rival in town, and ends up battling one of them, depending on her reaction to their conversation.

--Legendary Battle--

Cornet passes through Arpeggio, and learns that something strange has been happening to Concerto.

She goes into the wastelands, accompanied by Rallentando, the male rival, and Violet, to find a group of powerful Pokémon waiting for her arrival at a stone structure. She is put into the middle of a debate about humans as a whole, and her parents are mentioned as an example of why humans should be removed.

Depending on what decisions have been made, one legendary will step forward and challenge her to a battle. Win or capture the legendary to continue. Or, they will decide against the humans entirely, in which case one of two other 'secret' legendaries will appear. They will challenge that decision, and battle her as proof.

After the battle, the legendaries depart, and Cornet is led back to Arpeggio.
--fork in the road--

Cornet moves on either directly to Mezzopiano, or sidetracks to Doloroso and the Pokémon Mausoleum.

--seventh gym--

In Mezzopiano, she sees the male rival again. This time he is still cocky, but a bit friendlier, and says a few things that seem out of character. He then battles her. The gym leader is very serious, and also mentions her parents before battling with Cornet.
--eighth gym--

Then Cornet backtracks to the fork in the road, and moves on to Incalzando, where she battles the leader. After which, she meets with violet again.

Violet expresses her surprise at Cornet getting all eight badges, and insinuates that she earned them through less than honest means. A battle then begins. Win to continue.

--Elite Four--

After getting the last badge, she moves to Crescendo, where she stops a rockets' attack before challenging the elite four.

--Storyline End--

After beating the elite four and Rallentando, the champion, Ruby appears. She tells Cornet how proud she is of her. Then a voice calls from a short distance away. It's Florence. Florence claims that if the rockets' finished off Ella, Lucian would love her again, and blames Cornet for ruining that chance.

She tries to shoot Cornet, but Ruby blocks the bullet. Ruby then gives Cornet the missing piece to the necklace, allowing it to play the lullaby she used to sing for her as an infant. Ruby sings the song one last time, then, Rallentando takes her hand, and says goodbye for the last time.

Cornet's fake parents appear. She yells at them for taking her and then lying to her. They claim she can't do anything about it, because without her mother, they are her legal guardians. Rallentando then steps up and admits to being Cornet's real father.

Cornet then refuses to have anything to do with her 'parents'. Violet tells Cornet that if she needs a place to stay in Pianissimo, she's welcome at her house. The male rival then tells Cornet that he loves her.

Cornet says her own last goodbye, at the funeral for Ruby. The game cuts to the credits and the main storyline ends.

--After the Story--

In Pianissimo, the place to go to rest is now Violet's house. Cornet can no longer enter her old house.

She lives in her Rallentando's hometown, Fortissimo, with him. This location is not accessible until now. This is now the location she will reappear if she defeats the elite four, etc.

She can once more enter the wastelands, and can obtain the move surf to enter the water temple in the eastern sea, where one can challenge Lugia(water/flying[aeroblast is now water type]), Suicune, or Merlion, depending on decisions made during the storyline.

She is also able to enter the Crypts, a maze of ghost, psychic, dark, and a few moon(new type) pokémon beneath the mausoleum. There will be another legendary at the bottom of the crypts.

better now? less text-wall-y?

...Wow, yeah, you have put a lot of work into this, at least story-wise. I'm quite impressed.

Let's see... my main problem is in your presentation of this topic. See, people are more encouraged to comment if you break it down into easy-to-chew bits, complete with images and pretty CSS and whatsit. You don't have to do it, but it helps to have each part of the thread clearly marked as such. Only through rereading the post several times was I able to draw my conclusion that this was a Pokemon fangame based on music, which leaves me with some lingering questions.

First, you say that it's a musical. How, exactly? Is it a rhythm game? I think that'd be a cool idea-- have different effects and instruments for the Pokemon in your party, that sort of thing. If you have confidence in your programming skills, then by all means, go right ahead and do it-- I'd love to see that applied. It still sounds very difficult.

Second, I'm kind of divided about the silly musical names. Now, if it were me, I'd scramble the names of the towns so they aren't so obvious (Like swapping the first and last syllables, that sort of thing). But then, it's all up to whatever sounds best to you.

I'm looking forward to seeing the maps and (hopefully) screenshots you have. :3 As a final note, what are you making this game in?
EDIT: I guess I kinda missed the part of the title where you said this was the story. My points still stand, though.

I'll get to work on breaking it down more. It's not a rhythm game, i have no idea how i would do that. It's more like pokemon with musical numbers. I have no programming skills to speak of yet beyond python. I'm enrolled in a C class though, so i hope to learn. In the mean time i'll keep working on sprites and the story.

i thank you for your input.

...So what are you planning on making this in? In this case, I'd actually reccommend you use Poccil's starter kit (quite the contrary to my normal advice... however, it would be a shame to see such a good story go to waste because you can't make the game), although goodness knows how you're going to put musical numbers in... really, though, I've never heard of a video game musical before. o_o If that's what floats your boat, then sure. But I think it's be cooler to have "music battles" or the like in the ilk of contests, or maybe replacing battles entirely. Think of the possibilities! It could be really, really fun! And with some coding experience on top of an established RPG engine, I think you might actually be able to make this work... with quite a lot of effort on someone's part, anyway.

Working on story and fleshing out plot points and the like is fantastic and all but again (I'm going against my code here) you've really got to make sure you've got a... y'know, game, first. Otherwise it might make a nice fanfiction.

...Yeah, I know you're asking for criticism on your plot and not nagging about how you're going to get this done, but plotwise your game is one of the most substantial I've seen posted here. (It actually has an ending! Wowee!) So while I reccommend you continue to flesh it out, I'd also encourage you to work on the game aspect of your game.

I've been working on the spriting for it. And the idea of a musical game actually came from the playstation game rhapsody. I don't want to remove the classical pokemon element from the game, battle wise.

and i thank you for your advice. I'll give it a try.

The story for this game is amazing. I love the idea of a musical Pokemon game and I'm very intrigued by how you're going to implement that into a Pokemon game. The one thing that kinda annoys me is that you game the ENTIRE story. Sometimes a person wants to play through a game and find these things out for themselves, you know what I mean? But, it is an awsome story that, if things game-wise don't work, would make a great fanfiction. I watch this topic with hungry eyes for screenshots and your plans.
