Matt Stille made the most impressive deck I have seen in a while. It was Stein free... Zaborg Free... hell it had Gearfried the Iron Knight as its backbone.

How amazing is that he took this deck to a Top 8 Finish.

Now many a people are going to Net-Deck that and say stuff like "Oh I knew about this deck for a while... just never made it."

Well I wont say anything like that... I never looked at Gearfried like this and all the credit goes to Matt Stille. But I think this deck here takes one of my favorite cards that people will generally laugh at (will address soon) and adds in another amazing card (Sacred Phoenix) mixed with Gearfried to make a rather crazy deck....

    What Do You Think?

    Momsters (20)
    7-8: (1)
    1x Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys

    5-6: (5)
    2x Mobuis/Zaborg
    2x Cyber Dragon

    1-4: (15)
    3x Gearfried the Iron Knight
    2x Apprentice Magician
    2x Hands of Nephythys
    1x Magician of Faith
    1x Injection Fairy Lily
    1x Old Vindictive Magician
    1x Exiled Force
    1x Sangan
    1x D.D. Warrior Lady
    1x Breaker the Magical Warrior
    1x D.D. Assaliant

    Spells: (12)
2x Smoke Grenade of the Thief
    1x Enemy Controller
    1x Premature Burial
    1x Nobleman of Crossout
    1x Heavy Storm
    1x Creature Swap
    1x Pot of Avarice
    1x Graceful Charity
    1x Reinforcements of the Army
    1x Last Will
    1x Confiscation

    Traps: 9
    3x Dark Coffin
    3x Blast With Chain
    1x Mirror Force
    1x Torrential Tribute
    1x Ring of Destruction

    Side Deck: (15)
    3x Mobuis the Frost Monarch
    2x Gravekeepers Spy
    1x Anteatereatingant
    2x Trap Dustshoot
    1x Solemn Judgment
    1x Waboku
    1x Call of the Haunted
    3x Smashing Ground
1x My Body As a Shield

its a crazy arse deck... it took Matt Stille's Gearfrieds and added in Anteatingeaterant to munch on Coffins, Grenades and Blasts to not only S. Sumon a 2000 beatstick but get a Breaker like effect each turn.. not to mention if I were to sac a Coffin and Grenade resulting in a free effect better than a D. Duo (Random Discard and I get to pick a discard)... or a destroy of a monster and a free look/discard.

Then comes my favorite card Phoenix which is another Trap hitter but is just a pain to face period... the Phoenix can run havoc on a player when it hits the 8 (2 Grenades, 3 Blasts, 3 Coffins) cards that can ruin the hand or field....

    SO what do you think?

Sadly the concept fails since Anteatereatingant "sends" the traps to the graveyard while those s/t needs to be "destroyed." Yes I thought about abusing Ant-whatever this way too, but the idea collapsed and so I swept it aside.

I think his deck made it to Top 8 not only because it's a surprise against meta, but also he played it well (besides ditching mirror force with graceful that caused him the entire round 2.) Cause like what everyone said, we all know how it works, and we are all aware of it. We all tried it at some point, but all of our copies of the same idea failed. His doesn't, and most likely it's because he knows exactly when to throw down those equip cards, and when to use it without waiting for Gearfried.

    Wow... i want to cry.........

i guess i will just put in some Mobuis's as Anteaters replacement

Hmm...I've seen this deck before......ah, yes, it was on another forum specifically for YGO...and everyone around flamed it relentlessly. True, it was more of a beta of this, but I feel now like returning there just to see their reaction...though it wouldn't really be worth it.

Anyway, this deck kinda takes the idea behind my Phoenix deck (posted here once a year or so ago) and twists it around, adding in Gearfried for extra pain. However, there are a few problems:

    1. Blast With Chain, one of the main cards of this deck, requires a monster to be on your side of the field, so if your field has just been rendered empty by your opponent they remain useless, and if Phoenix is coming back, well, they die uselessly (I don't think that kind of trap can chain to Phoenix's effect--and certainly not to the summoning since the effect is instantaneous--so they're stuck).

    2. As Forstweaver said, the S/T have to be destroyed, which Anteatereatingant doesn't do. HOWEVER, this doesn't make it a lousy card. Truthfully, with Chaos Sorcerer now completely gone, it's probably one of the best no-monsters-required high-level beatsticks we've got (not to mention the sweet S/T removal per turn).

    3. Since Gearfried is the main star of this deck, there is little sense to run only ONE RotA, the only card that can search for him. Also, with 3 other useful Warriors to bring out it shouldn't become a problem to use another one.

    4. If Gearfried can come out with relative reliability, then there is no need to use Confiscation over a third Smoke Grenade of the Bandit since, after all, with Gearfried it turns into a freebie Confiscation.

    Now, for the suggested fixes:

    -1 Creature Swap
+1 Enemy Controller (I know you only have one, but still keep this in mind if you ever find another one/get a Machine Structure Deck)

    -1 Anteatereatingant
    +1 RotA

    -1 Confiscation
+1 Smoke Grenade of the Bandit

I know this hits on the ratio, but IMO it evens out.

Not to be rude, but Nephthys and Anteatereatingant will slow the deck down. A warrior-phoenix deck can work but it's not in these terms.

    Anteatereatingant has a major problem...

It's a 2 card investment (the 2 S/T) and we're in a very chain-able situation so far, although Sakuretsu is making a comeback because it seems like we're going too fast for everyone in this format. Unlike Uria, Antereateatingant's S/T destruction can be chained to.

    Also, just like Vampire Lord...

the missing 150 attack power makes all the difference.
