I'm starting a new file of HG on a ROM and I'm stumped as to what team I will use.
I know I will have my starter, Chikorita
I would like to have an Eeveelution, preferably Umbreon, unless anyone is against this?
I've been thinking about Pidgeot for a Flying type, because I've never used one before, but I'll probably be swapping it out with Natu or, after beating the game, Charizard, or something later.
I obviously need an electric type, or atleast something with Electric type moves, but don't really want to use Ampharos, since he's used so commonly.
I seriously need some help here. Anyone?

Here's something I put together, but it's still completely open for suggestions
    Meganium
    Aromatherapy
    Sunny Day
    Synthesis
    Solarbeam

    Umbreon
    Curse
    Double Team
    Payback
    Moonlight

Meganium and Umbreon really could make a quite awesome combination, Sunny Day not only helps Meganium's Synthesis and SolarBeam, it also helps Umbreon's Moonlight.

    Gyarados (shiny)
    Thunder
    Blizzard
    Dragon Dance
    Waterfall

    Dragonite/ Pidgeot
    FireBlast/ Wing Attack/AirSlash
    Blizzard/ Tailwind
    Extremespeed/ Twister
    Outrage/ Return/MirrorMove
(you can see why I would want to switch out Pidgeot)

    Rhyperior
    Avalanche
    MegaHorn
    RockWrecker
    Earthquake

    Arcanine
    FlareBlitz
    ThunderFang
    Extremespeed
    Crunch
Meganium's Sunny Day also helps out Arcanine's FlareBlitz.
Also need help on abilities too.
Like I said, Please give any suggestions!

Keep Rhyperior. Its a really good ground type.

Keep Arcanine. Its stats are very well balanced.

I would not use Gyaradose. A good water option is Polywrath or Quagsire. If you could get a Lapras that would be even better.

Dragonite....hmmmm...if you like dragons it's agood one to have, since its flying and has good stats, but Pidgeot may be rather fast and has good defense. Pidgeot is above Swellow and Fearow, but not as good as Staraptor. Staraptor is the best flying/normal pokemon that is easily obtainable. If you want the best and dont mind working for it, then get a Togekiss. It is far superior.

While Umbreon is good, its not the best. I would go with an electric type. Ampharos and Electivire are the two best in my opinion, but if you want an eeveelution, then go with Jolteon. It has really good stats.

Meganium is a keeper mainly because it is your starter and I know how people are about starters. Mine is on my team.

    Ok, thanks alot

How about these movesets for Poliwrath/ Quagsire and Jolteon
    Poliwrath
    MindReader
    DynamicPunch
    Waterfall
    Hypnosis
Mindreader makes up for it's two low accuracy moves.

    Quagsire
    IcePunch
    Earthquake
    Amnesia
    Surf
Ice Punch is a move tutor move that I can't get until after the E4, so I'd probably have to cheat to get it, which I very easily could.

    Jolteon
Thunderbolt (once again I could easily cheat for this one if necessary)
    Shadow Ball
    Hyper Beam
Fake Tears (once again, cheating would be necessary)
Fake Tears would allow a boost on all of it's moves.

Looks good. I personally wouldnt teach a main team pokemon waterfall. Its not that strong. I would use a hm slave for that. (thats waht I use red gyaradose for)

yeah but Poliwrath's attack is Higher than it's special attack, making them just about even in power, although, you are right, as waterfall is not used very much, maybe instead of Hypnosis I can have Waterfall AND Surf

idk about that. i was saying you should get rid of waterfall. personally thats a bad choice in my opinion. also like you told me for my team type diversity is important. and its always good to be able to put the enemy to sleep. faster catches and faster wins.

I just checked it with a damage calculator, they are both about the same power, although waterfall still has a little bit more power.
I put it in like this, say you had a Poliwrath with an attack of 85 (Poliwrath's base attack stat) and you were using it against a pokemon with 50 defense. The move would do between 30 and 36 damage (note that more than likely poliwrath's actual attack stat will be higher than that.) Then i changed the stat to 75 (Poliwrath's base spatk) and kept the defending pokemon stuff the same. The attack would do between 30 and 35 damage. The difference is small, but waterfall will do more damage in the long run.
